  1. EUREKA!!!!! Got the new Gates belt in today, installed and tested this afternoon. Man, what a difference. No more grinding going into gear, smooth shifting from forward to reverse, diff lock works better, although I did let it roll a bit. Still stutters a bit when pulling off even after turning the idle up a bit. So, now it's get the limiter cap off the pilot screw and see if I can tweak the carb a bit to clear that up. Travis, I want to thank you for all your input, without it, I would have been lost. There's not a lot of info about the 550 on the internet, although there are great machines, for what they are designed for. I'll post the results about the carb as soon as I get a chance. May be a while, got a lot going on... Take care and God bless, Roger

  2. Chris, you are sure it is the bearing? My problems were never the bearing but the hub housing that the bearing is pressed into. Quality of material allowed/allows the bearing to turn in the hub & elongate. All my source info is in earlier posts as I have not had or been in the Joyner community for years. Good luck but check the hub housing. That is the reason I bought a spare non-running Joyner for parts, material quality. rocmoc n AZ

  3. Put in the manufacturer specified amount. The guys that built it know how much it should take. As to the smoking. If it's rings, it'll have a blueish tint. And it might smell a bit like unburned gas. Set the proper oil amount by the volume suggested by the manufacturer. Not the dipstick. Nor the guy at the dealer. Then run it awhile, and see if anything improves.
