  1. Bottom line is Moab is one special place if you can deal with all the other people there trying to enjoy it also. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  2. more of steel bender, http://www.waymarking.com/waymarks/WM50JR_Steel_Bender_Moab_Utah http://www.deschutescounty4wheelers.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1136 This is the chute leading up to the area in the above youtube videos.
  3. South of Moab, South of Sky Ranch airport, near the reservoir at 38 28 39.73 N, 109 25 21.95 W per Google Earth. You can see the camping spots. This is the trail head for Steel Bender. It was a GREAT trail to the cliff we had to climb. You could always turn around and drive back out. This is a video of where they tied me off with the rope so I didn't do this, Keep in mind that most trails have by-passes that go around the really hard spots. I believe this is one of the few that does not. Here is another going down, we went up, http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3260820328902038971#rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  4. There are couple of trailheads that are also dry camping / boondocks locations (no hookups). One is at the trailhead South of town. This is a very tough trail, they tied rope to our roll bar and about 8 guys were holding on at one climb near and edge of a LOOOOOOng drop-off. We made it with little help from the rope guys but it was nice knowing if we started to flip they were there to keep us from going over. Most of the campgrounds along the main road coming into town from the South have access to the back streets to the trails Northeast of town. Fun easy trails. There is a trail along the main road coming into town, it is NOT legal to use it. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  5. The one that was tight was not loose to begin with and not the problem. I did clean and loctite but didn't work. Our 31" tires and the ability they give us to do more difficult 4 wheeling pushes the existing hub beyond the design of the hub, IMHO. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  6. Be very very careful. Not a fan of your hoist setup! rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  7. Picked up my shocks yesterday. They are now revalved 35 - 55 from the factory 50 - 70. This is a touch softer than Lenny's at 40 - 60. Lenny does carry more weight in the rear, LOL! Siriusly, Lenny's rear corner weights are larger therefore requiring more damping. Our two Troopers should be pretty close to each other in damping. Now to work on the springs. I will install shocks & adjust springs Monday/Tuesday. Also found out the cost for revalving is $27/shock. First one is free with purchase. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  8. Not enough. Iron strength is more a matter of carbon content. Better & more material around the bearing location is required. This would also allow for the use of a larger bearing more evenly distributing the stress to the bearing surfaces. Someone needs to find an existing fit from another vehicle or cast another from higher quality material fitted for a larger bearing. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  9. BUT it doesn't take care of the soft cast iron the hub is made out of. Someone needs to come up with a stronger hub. I now believe my bearings were fine but the hub was worn. The axle nut WAS at the correct torque. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  10. Here is the link to my post & pics of when I pulled my engine, no photos any more, long with the throw-out bearing replacement tip. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  11. Yes, the tranny just slides together like any other setup. May have to place a block of wood under the rear of the tranny for support to keep the correct alignment. The pain is when you change out the throw-out bearing. I posted the trick in the past. Will have to try and find it. Don't remember what it was but it was different. Change the clutch while it is apart. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  12. Snowman, YES they are the Stock ball joint with mods. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320645990715&viewitem=&sspagename=ADME%3AB%3ASS%3AUS%3A1123 rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  13. Kinarfi, I removed the bolts between the frame and the engine mounts. I believe there are more than 4 bolts on the tranny, not home at the moment. I removed the engine and tranny in one unit, just my preference. Then separated the engine from the tranny. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  14. Sorry to hear the News Mako8. Hang in there! What parts do you have? rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  15. 2scoops, We really need to find out what the part # is on the caliper and pads of your brake setup. Any chance boxes or numbers came with the purchase or maybe a call to the previous owner? Best brake setup thus far. Thanks for sharing, rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  16. Thanks, rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  17. A little competition is suppose to bring prices down. Come on Lenny & Snowman, do it! rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  18. Link to the discussion of this summer's Jamboree, http://www.utvboard.com/topic/1687-the-next-jamboree-get-together/ rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  19. Welcome! Are you coming to the Joyner adventure in Southern Utah this June? Would love to see some pics of the brake mods, LOTS of PICS! rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  20. Yeah, sounds like an aftermarket product. Doesn't FastFreddie make a reprogrammed computer for the Trooper. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  21. When I snapped off my tranny output shaft at Moab, it was my fault. Before that I had climbed everything everybody else had and some easier. Most trails have a secondary route around the harder route. Check ahead of time with who ever is running the event, they will / should know. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  22. And the correct backspacing, critical! rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  23. Here is a link to a post of past discussions, http://www.utvboard.com/topic/2061-shock-revalve-spring-adjustment/page__p__8699__fromsearch__1#entry8699
  24. I was just getting ready to post a first time way to go is the UTV Rally, http://utvrally.com/ That was how we did it. EXCELLENT people & experience. They take care of everything getting to the trails. You park at the Arena and caravan to the trails. The orginal two couples putting on the Rally split. There are/was two now to pick from. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  25. This is the site I use, http://www.rr4w.com/pageview.aspx?menu=4422&id=16364 All trails in Moab have great trail heads where you can park. In Utah, what the local LEO told us, they honor your your State's registration for the Street. The limitation is you can not drive on the main highway or main street, all back streets & roads. If your State requires an additional off-road sticker, they also honor it. If it does not, you will have to purchase UT's off-road sticker. They do check! Moab is great, all of the trails are great and NOTE the difficulty rating on the above site for each trail. That is the min rating, can be even more difficult. Best to be on the buddy system. Take a LONG tow strap & a LONG strong rope. Tow strap is tow & the rope is to tie on to the roll bar using a dozen guys pulling to keep you from rolling over, I AM SIRIUS. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
