I am taking pics. You will need - Two rear wheel bearings, I got mine from snowman at No Limits Powersports, http://www.joyner-atv-utv.com/ but also available from Silver Bullet Motorsports, http://silverbulletmotorsports.net/ Two seals (metric sizing), part specs TC 45 65 8 purchased from Motion Industries, http://www.motionindustries.com/motion3/jsp/mii/LocationsMI.jsp which are being dropped shipped to me. 3 for approx $15 Large socket set to break the nut loose on the axle holding the hub on. I have a 3/4" set and worked great. C-clip removal tool, I have one but was easier using an old screwdriver trick. Seal puller, I have a bodyman's dent removal tool with an adapter that works. This saves the old seal but you could use a screwdriver and kill the seal. Remove the wheel/tire. Remove the cotter key. Remove large nut, someone needs sit in the Trooper applying the brakes to keep the axle from turning. Remove the brake calipers, 2 bolts per caliper & two calipers per wheel in the rear for a total of 4 bolts. Slide the hub & rotor off the end of the axle. Remove the 2 bolts holding the backing hub/bearing housing to the swingarm. One on top, one on bottom. Remove the bearing housing. Wipe, clean so you can see what you are doing. Remove the seal. The seal is in front of the C-clip & bearing. Wipe, clean so you can see what you are doing. Remove the C-clip, can be a pain if you have never done it before. Slide the bearing out. CLEAN! That is as far as I am on one side. Waiting for the seals. Why there are seals is beyond me. The bearing is sealed so it is just extra protection. There was grease in the area between the seal & bearing. Cheap insurance so I will put it back the way I found it. I can tell the bearing has spun a very very small amount. The fit between the housing & the bearing is still very very good. Lenny's tip to locite the outside of the bearing in place to the housing is important! But will make it more difficult to remove the bearing the next time it requires replacement. Yes, my original bearing had wear & slop. IMHO not that bad but did need replacement. The bearing isn't as bad as the design of the housing is. Taper roller bearings should have been the real design but what the heck lasted 4 years. rocmoc n AZ

Look in the owner's manual to see what the specs are. They maybe the same as the Trooper which is 4x1.15. Then the only other thing that you have to know is the backspace & width of the rim. For backspace measuring from the rear side of the rim/the side against the brake hub, How many inches is it from the mounting center of the wheel to the outside edge. You can measure this from one of your existing wheels. Width is from outside edge to outside edge. Then anything that matches the specs/measurments will work. Also you could go and Ebay and put in Joyner 650 Commando wheel and see what comes up. The specs maybe on the Ebay page. rocmoc n AZ

Nah, Like Lenny I have been trying to remove weight. Less weight = more speed & available power. rocmoc n AZ

Heck with the 8500lb winch in the rear, you could turn it into a Trooper Tow Truck. rocmoc n AZ

Didn't get to the Trooper today. Our weather is about to change so I loaded the trailer for a dump run and cleaned the chicken coop! Tomorrow to the dump and then the Trooper (maybe). I can work on the Trooper in the garage out of the weather anytime. I still have my propane garage heater from when we lived near Tahoe in the SNOW. rocmoc n AZ

KOFA National Wildlife Refuge UTV, ATV & Off Road Trail
rocmoc replied to SouthwestUTV.com's topic in UTV General Discussion
The trail is an extension of the road of of Hwy 95 South of Quartzsite, AZ. to the Refuge. The off-roading is very light, could do in a car, as this is one of the most protected areas near Quartzsite. There are signs for the turnoff to the Refuge on Hwy 95. rocmoc n AZ -

We will be leaving EARLY morning Jan. 7th. and it is a 6 1/2+ hour pull for us. We will arrive mid-afternoon. Will be there until early Monday morning. Plan to stay at Craggy Wash , http://www.frugal-rv-travel.com/craggy-wash-free-convenient-quiet.html or http://rvarizona.blogspot.com/2009/12/free-rv-camping-near-lake-havasu-city.html Rick has been kind enough to video a portion of the route in, "Rocmoc, I took this short video this past Saturday of the entrance(starting about 100 yds off the 95) heading into Craggy Wash.Only went in about a mile or so. "Monday morning we are moving down to the Ehrenberg Sandbowl http://www.riderplanet-usa.com/atv/trails/info/arizona_03061/ride_fb25.htm after the weekend. This is located just south of I10. We will gas up generators & propane as we pass thu Lake Havasu or at the Flying J as we pull off of I10. This location is also close enough for a day ride over to Quartzsite which will be at it's peak. Camp is also within a short riding distance of the Flying J. We will be here at least a couple of days and maybe three. http://www.azgfd.gov/outdoor_recreation/arizona_ohv_trails_places.shtml more info if you scroll down toward the bottom of the page and look for Sand Bowl. Yuma may not happen for us if we have too much fun at Ehrenberg/Quartzsite and use up all of our time. Maybe one day on our way home if we all agree to another move to Yuma. We will talk about it as a group when we are together. I am PMing Rick, Lenny & Kinarfi with our tel # which is good at all times even when traveling. rocmoc n AZ

Big hurdle, Toyhauler is road-worthy again. Greased the bearings yesterday and adjusted. I have one maintenance item for the Trooper (will preform today) and then everything else is cream. Some of the cream is a mount for the ice chest & small gas can. I would like to make the mount for the spare tire a little more secure. All three of these things aren't necessary for the trip so basically we well be ready after today. Just in time as our weather is finally turning cooler with a possibility of moisture. Need to load the trash trailer today also and make a run to the dump tomorrow. BUT I am excited to be soooooo close. rocmoc n AZ

09 Trooper m what 2 do to make more reliable?
rocmoc replied to BC Trooper's topic in Joyner UTV SxS Forum
Hello Stevo. Mine is also garage kept as you have to do everything in AZ. The sun is just too intense. Plan on riding in your area one day as well as the Hot Wells Dunes http://www.riderplanet-usa.com/atv/trails/info/arizona_10347/ride_8ea1.htm just south of you near Bowie. rocmoc n AZ -
It is one of the early ones with the gas tank up front. May even be one of the first 50. I can see it has the brake upgrade. Make sure it has the drive line upgrade. The orginal drive line had U-joints and was junk. The upgrade has CV Joints. You can tell it been in the moisture from the rust on the exhaust manifold. Looks like it does have some good mods & upgrades. My concern would be the electrical connections. Good luck! rocmoc n AZ

09 Trooper m what 2 do to make more reliable?
rocmoc replied to BC Trooper's topic in Joyner UTV SxS Forum
I haven't. Live in Southern AZ where it hardly rains except in monsoon season and you don't want to be caught out in a monsoonal storm. After it rains, the moisture is absorbed into the ground so quickly we rarely have mud. Thus far I have been successful keeping it dry. This is probably something I will address in 2011 as the rubbers are really starting to go. rocmoc n AZ -
Only things unique to the early first 50 was rear Drive line U-joints, broken brace on rear diff, wrong fuse in fan & bad early design of rear fenders . The fuel tank in the early did not have any of the stalling problems but is hard to fill. I think I am about the only one on here with a first 50 Trooper. The rest is pretty much a possibility to all but many have not had a lot of the problems. Example, I have not had any problems with front ball joints, electrical connection, starter, sensors and more. And there have been some that have had no problems. rocmoc n AZ
