  1. If they are locked diffs, not much you can do about the digging in as one tire travels at a different speed from the other. Result is tire slipping and tearing up the surface or leaving tread mark. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  2. Welcome. We have a couple Joyner dealers on this site so I sure one of them will have some info for you. The turning radius is not in most cases influenced by the diffs. It is controlled by the CV Joints, axles or clearances problems. Since I don't have a Commando I will make some educated guesses. Sounds like you have limited slip diffs. Have you changed your diff oil? If not, do so and use royal purple adding a limit slip additive. This maybe the fix and a lot less work and money. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  3. Cinda, my dealer gave me the chance to trade it with a later model he had in the shop but declined. There are advantages to having the plastic. Mine is heavier than Zell. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  4. I tried again this morning but NO LUCK. I have left messages twice and at different times of the morning. If he does not call me back today I will not be updating this post again until after Mar. 22nd as I will be in Mexico and he will not be able to reach me. This info was left in the message also. I will try again when I return one more time, then I will try via someone else withing the BLM Farmington office. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  5. I cut the spare tire mount off today. Didn't suit my taste and it hit the cabinets in the garage area of the Toyhauler when loaded. Plus I will save the weight almost half of my spare tires weight. My spare is mounted flat in the surface of the area above the engine. Since my Trooper is one of the early ones, my surface is diamond plate not the plastic. I will take a pic tomorrow. I used a Sawsall to remove the mount/support and grinder to clean the excess off. Little glossy black and it looks like it came from the factory that way. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  6. AaaaH! Now I understand your concern. Mid-Engine vs. Rear-Engine, LOL! rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  7. Well, I called JJ @ BLM in Farmington today to try and work thu the camping permit process. Only got his voice-mail, so left a message. I will call again tomorrow. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  8. Engine doesn't care if the water pump is in the front , rear or sideways. I have a rear engine classic where the water pump & pulleys are in the front, one of my race cars on the passenger side, another race car with the front of engine toward driver's side and the Trooper in the rear. The Trans is the governing piece and rotation of the output shaft. Everything else can be made to work. The other concern is the gear ratio of the trans in the Trooper is much lower than normal. When Lenny builds his gear reduction units for the axles, this maybe solved. I would love to have a reverse overdrive unit. CJ5 Jeeps use to have a sweet little bolt on overdrive unit to make the Jeep more highway friendly. We need the reverse! OR a two speed transfer case. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  9. Rotation isn't the problem. The problem is the that most front wheel drive car transmissions are a trans-axle meaning that there are clutches built into the trans output shaft to allow slipping of the two axles to the wheels for easier driving on hard surfaces. Our trans is a trans, direct drive output without any clutches and the slipping is in the diffs. The trans will have to be opened up and output shaft wielded solid or output shaft replaced with direct drive shaft / or something. Rotation is easy to overcome by turning the engine. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  10. I also have a copy of the Trooper manual and can send a big pdf file if necessary. I also have made a papercopy in case I lose it on the computer.
  11. Phoenix area!
  12. Ad shows Casey as the seller. Casey was the person / manager in charge of the shop at TeamJoyner. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  13. Lenny, did you know after you got thu the maze to the flipper, if you pulled real hard on the bottle would come out for free. 5 cents was a lot of money! rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  14. Wow, we should be warned. I would not bad mouth any of Lenny's stuff. I am just frugal. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  15. Way too much money. I will replace my steering box with a good rack & pinon before I pay that much. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  16. Be careful. Some of the clutch upgrades require machine work of the flywheel. I was so impressed with the condition of my original factory clutch when I changed it that I put the same back in. Very very little wear. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  17. What my favorite is and what I buy are two different things. SO, I am going to say my favorite tool brand that I use is Harbor Freight (HF). Isn't that awful, the dollar rules my decision and choice. I have found about a 4 to 1 price benefit / replacement ratio. In other words I can replace the HF tool 4 times to equal the price of a high quality major brand. I also found rarely do I ever replace more than twice so I am money ahead! rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  18. I am lucky enough to have a spare set of cables, the electric 4 wd engaging unit., master cyl, rotors and more. I added to my parts supply over the last couple of years. Unfortunately, nothing big like diffs, trans or engine. Would it be worth while to start a topic with spares that people have? rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  19. Thanks, I did not know about the Loctight stuff, good info. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  20. You are not going to get any help from Joyner, they are gone / out of business for now. You will have to get your part from another dealer's stock or make the part yourself. There are a couple dealers on this site. Hopefully they will step up and contact you. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  21. Welcome back. Riding lawn mower batteries are great. That is what I use in my race cars. Watch the silicon, may breakdown from the gas and leak. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  22. I was wondering what was happening. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  23. With the weather nearing 70+ degrees, we went for a little ride today. I sure enjoy driving my Trooper. We went to the Post Office & Bank in our little town. Ran great and the rebuilt tranny is still better than new. We will be taking it to Kino Bay, Son., MX in three weeks. I sold the complete set of original rims in a package deal to a guy in the next town so I had to get a new spare tire & rim. I bought a 14" rim for less than half what they sold for from Joyner on Ebay. What service, it arrived in less than two days. The 14" will work fine as a spare, now to find the largest used 14" tire I can find. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
