Helps but will not catch thickness irregularities in the inside of the tube. Take it to a driveline shop and have them balance it. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico

Kinarfi, I snapped the shaft off because I abused it at Moab. My failure not the Trooper's. Lenny, don't forget the driveline should be balanced IMHO. The few times I have had drivelines built for race cars or hot rods, I always had the new driveshaft balanced. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico

Kooool! We will be in Quartzsite, AZ. 12/31 leaving 1/4. I will have the laptop with us in case you can break away. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico

I believe it was done for ease of installation which may have not been the case. A one piece should work fine, trans & diff locations are fitted! JMHO! rocmoc n AZ/Mexico

I saw and removed the Allen screw. That wasn't the problem. The bracket would not compress as it would not clear the caliper at the center of the bracket. I believe the bracket bends slightly over time from the original installation at the factory. The minor adjustment I made should take care of the problem permanently. Thanks for your feedback as others may not see the Allen screw and I failed to mention it. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico

OK, I finished the rear brakes today. Did not go as smooth as the fronts. 3 of the 4 mounting caliper brackets / pad guides would not clear the caliper when compress allowing room to remove & install the pads. I was able to squeeze enough room by forcing the bracket allowing the old pads to be removed. Then I was able to remove the bracket which is also the guide post for the pads. With a little grinding of metal on the bracket and a small amount of filing of the caliper, the bracket passed over the caliper allowing full access for installing the new pads. Second the piston on the emergency brake calipers would not compress allowing room for the pads. Compressing the piston, I bleed some brake fluid and the piston compressed. Still have to figure out why the fluid would not push back into the emergency master cylinder, maybe a plugged vent hole on the master. With the new pads & calipers installed, GREAT! TIP: The rear pads wear the most on the inside pad. Watch the inside pads as they will fail first. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico

A New Mexico OHV permit is not required for Arizona, California and Utah. Nevada does require a permit, a complete list of states requiring a permit can be found at http://www.wildlife.state.nm.us/ohv/docume...itorpermits.htm. A permit can be acquired on-line before you arrive. Here is the site http://74.125.155.132/search?q=cache:i_zEg...=clnk&gl=us and the cost is $18 for 90 day permit and a 2 year permit is $48. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico

I grew up in Kansas and loved it as a kid. As an adult the winters are tougher than I am. You are always welcome to come South and visit in the winter IF you bring your Trooper. Make sure we are here as it gets too cold here and we head further South. Can't even take the 50s in the daytime and the freezing nights, LOL! When I stopped skiing, I had NO further use for snow & cold. Skiing was the only way I could ever justify winter with snow. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico -
You are preaching to the choir. Ask anyone who know me the most valuable thing to me, except wife, cats & kids, is time. Even more so than money. You can not buy it on any market in the world. I can't find the time to play with or maintain hobbies or toys because of my adult responsibilities, bummer. The second is I work to play. Never grew up, stop every day at 3pm, the time school let out, and hate to work in the summer. The school system ruined me or was it they made the better me. One of my greatest concerns is the deterioration of the rubber items on the Trooper, boots, covers & etc. Even tho mine is kept inside except when played with, the rubber is all starting to crack. Just as long as you are having FUN! rocmoc n AZ/Mexico

Thanks Lenny. Just wanted a little feedback. The hub/axle nut on my old race car had 240 ft-lbs of torque so I do understand. I am assuming the hub slipped off without the need of a puller. Have a great day. One of my favorites, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkMUaPUKxeI...feature=related for Xmas! rocmoc n AZ/Mexico

While doing the front brakes today, I checked for slop & looseness. What I found was the Allen Bolts on the top of the Steering Gear Box that holds down the top plate were backing out. AND it was a far amount. Check the bolts! rocmoc n AZ/Mexico

The pads are easy to change, did the fronts today and will finish the rears tomorrow. But here is the deal. Since I have one of the first T2s, I have the tiny little early rotors. Joyner gave me a upgrade kit over a year ago but I have not had a problem with the existing brakes. Thought I would do the upgrade to the front brakes. The problem is to change the rotor to the new larger rotor in the kit, you have to remove the hub nut and remove the hub. The rotor sets in behind the hub and there is NO WAY the hub will pass thu the hole in the center of the rotor. The question, Has anyone removed the hub nut, I tried but it on there super tight? Has anyone pulled the hub? Does it take a puller to remove the hub? Would like to know before I get tough with nut & hub. At any rate, I changed out the pads. The fronts were only half worn out so differently more rear brake bias than front. Thanks, rocmoc n AZ/Mexico

What size of fuse are you using? I had the same problem and Joyner had me put in a larger fuse, I think a 20 or 25 amp fuse, Solved problem. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico

You are going to get coal next Xmas for the beach swimming commit. LOL! Normally we are on the beach South of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico but this year I am freezing, 25 degrees F at home until Feb. Then we will head South for a few weeks. Enjoy the water & your Xmas. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico -
Just ordered the same air cleaner online. Suppose to be here Monday! Thanks for doing some of the legwork. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico You're certainly welcome!!!!!

This will be my LAST post to this thread, it is getting too long. I took the beast for two rides today after some odds & end work. I will not have time to deal with the filter tube mod as I have a trip coming up with the beast and I have to do the brakes & general maintenance plus get the trailer ready. LAST TWO TIPS, Tip 1. Adjusting the shift linkage. As you move the lever forward & backward, I adjusted the the lever to halfway between the distance. I you are too far forward or backward, you will have the linkage over-engaged in one direction and under-engaged the other. This is true for both cables. Just watch the shift linkage on the top of the tranny. When the linkage will not travel any further, there is no reason for the lever to travel further. That is what worked for me. TIP 2, one of the BIGGEST. This engine & cooling system design will trap a HUGE air bubble. Be careful. Run it to pretty warm and lift the release on the radiator cap allowing the air to escape. Do this a couple of times or your engine WILL get hot. You have to get all of the air out of the system. If you don't your temp gauge go nuts and it is telling you the TRUTH, it is HOT! A side note is the trans is quieter than original. I always thought the tranny was a little too loud. Very pleased! For practical purposes I am finished I will not be posting anymore info to this thread! rocmoc n AZ/Mexico

Hello Brostar, I have left a voice mail but not hopefully as there was not a message when you call in to the number, just the telco voice message. Sometime this means a scam. I also left an email at the craigslist address in the add. We will see if this is on the up & up or a scam with bad info. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico

Hey Lenny, When I rebuilt the water lines to the house I used galvanized pipe expecting it not to fail in the balance of my lifetime. WRONG, seam split of about 7 inches in my Home Depot Chinese pipe that was only 2 years old. So now two seam splits of Chinese tubing/pipe. I won't even get into my Chinese Trailer tires. Thanks for the heads up as this is something those of us running over-sized tires & shock need to watch for. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico

brostar, I will call the add today and find out what dealer they bought the Trooper from. Then we maybe able to get additional info. I will post what I find out. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
