I use to live in Nevada City and skied everything in the Sierras. Skiing was the only reason for winter to me in those days. Now that I don't ski anymore, no reason for winter. Just a warm weather bird. I can play in the monsoons for a little mud and the temp is normally around 75-80 during the rain. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico

He is putting together a good team. BUT, how do you save an economy that is based on credit? I still have great concerns. This country has to start producing more than just consumers and stop relying on other countries for products & oil. It will take a generation to rebuild USA if the government can stay on a single course of action. Unfortunately, history shows the not to be the case. Pay cash, save money and depend on no one! This course of action does not care who is in office or what happens in the world. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico

Yes, we had a full Turkey dinner again last night. Now my better 3/4 will turn the rest into different dishes. I don't like under 60 degrees. I had to put long pants on for the first time since last March when were in San Diego, one day only. Seemed strange! Leaving in a week for Guadalajara. Toyhauler is loaded with Kayaks, bicycles and satellite dishes. Temp yesterday in Guad was 82 degrees. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico

No ATV or SidexSide is sold for water use. Only after some major aftermarket work should water be attempted above a reasonable level. Water, especially salt is poison to any mechanical toy or piece of equipment, even a boat. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico

I will be posting more when I get home. I am in San Diego and met with Off Road Warehouse. There shock expert is down at the Race but I will be talking to him when he returns, I got a name. They did give me basics, Sway Away Shocks website has a tech section they use to size the shock springs. The Tech section goes into detail about the required weights, measurements & angles needed to get the correct spring rate. I will share more after I talk to the expert. I will also talk to him about valving/re-valving the shocks. Their shocks are cheaper online with free shipping at times then at their store locations. Shocks are shipped with the springs not installed as you have to setup sag/droop. I looked at both the Fox 2.0 & the 2.5. The 2.5 is huge! I am going to wait until after my call before I share what I was told so I can make sure the Expert agrees. Working on it! rocmoc n AZ/Mexico

They aren't trails as you know trails. They are trails thu the flats between the bush to the Dunes, the stuff you see along the side of a highway. Glames is SAND! If things have not changed, went for years in the 60's & 70's, but now there are too many people. Check out youtube. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico

Sorry can't help, have not had one off. Haven't heard of anyone having a problem with the front shocks. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico

The reason I was looking at a reservoir is because when I blew my shock and let the N2 out of the other shock, the oil in both shocks was so hot I was nearly burnt. I was going over a trail that required a lot of shock action but unfortunately that is most of the trails around me. I found the same, no rebound. Yes it will make a world of difference, one reason I am going to do the same as you and lower the diff. I have never had sag and you need some sag for great shock action. Sorry to hear about the springs. Keep us abreast of what you do. My Trooper will diet when going to sand/dunes. I plan to remove the back lid/rollbar over the engine and replace with a single sheet of 1/4" aluminum diamond plate. To me that is one of the easiest weight savers for the dunes. I also am going to do the same to some of the protection plate under the Trooper. I will leave steel in the middle where the high center takes place and under the engine/diff. The rest can be changed to aluminum. Let me know if you have any other ideas. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico

Flatbed, Fox 2.0 or 2.5? Are the springs included or are you reusing your existing springs? I assume from the price, no reservoir. Did you ever get corner weights? rocmoc n AZ/Mexico

LOL, that funny. El Capitan has always been 1st come 1 serve, no reservations. We will arrive Wed afternoon and tie-up the spots we will need. There normally not a problem except on a holiday getting rv sites or rooms. I don't think there is power but we have our gen and Detbonica's gen. We should be good for basic services, no AC. Coffee, lights, TV & Satellite will be fine. El Capitan has water, bathrooms & Showers. We will have enough drinking water for everyone if it becomes an issue. Sounds like we are up to 5 for sures! rocmoc n AZ/Mexico -

We can definitely use the Toyhauler as a backup if a suitable, clean & good hotel room can not be found. I can't imagine the garage area of the trailer is cleaner or better than a local hotel room. I would not find it my first choice. Our bedroom in the Toyhauler is separated by a door. This is not the type of Toyhauler where the garage is part of the living area. We try to keep the garage clean but it does have a rubber floor with three rolls of E-track. Bring an air mattress or padding just in case as the floor is not flat with the E-track and blankets as there is not any heat in the garage. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico -

We will be staying at The El Capitan in a Toyhauler Trailer. A Tent is great as long as we are all in the same general area. We also can provide some electric for evening use and morning coffee from the Toyhauler Generator. Snakes are rarely where people & toys are. Yes to ice & we can always throw buckets of water at you down at the beach after you soap up. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico -

This is the info my friend sent me via email. "There are maybe a dozen hotels in El Golfo, most are between 4 & 12 rooms, none above one star. A couple of old #'s I have are: Las Conchas 011 52 653-515-7001 or 653-515-7002 We stayed here once, beachfront with a good restaurant on site. Clean, was about $45. Ask for Ramon, the owner. Hotel Mar de Cortez 011 52 653-515-7170 Cell 044-653-849-6751 Small two story, 12-15 rooms, I think they have a small pool. Unless your there on a holiday weekend, reservations are not necessary. Most are cash only, not an ATM within 50 miles. As to WIFI, the only place I know to have access is in the CRA (Colorado River Adventures) RV Park. It is a private RV Park but the people are super friendly, the snowbirds are starting to roll in so it should be about 1/2 full. Ask for David, he is the activities director. I am sure he can direct you as to how to obtain WIFI access. Other people good for local advice are either Pat or Pulpo next door @ Pulpo & Patties Bar. Or Tere & Alex @ El Capitan Bar." Hope this helps! rocmoc n AZ/Mexico -

I have had mine is the fine blow sand. While it was limited in what I could climb, I had plenty of fun. 60-70% for the time you will be able to go anywhere. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico -

I have a buddy on another board that goes down all the time. I will ask him about hotel, I know there is not any B&Bs. Fuel quality is USA. We travel Mexico a lot and down a 1,000 miles. Have not heard of anyone with a fuel problem. That was a long time ago when the fuel was dirty or had water. Riding is mostly sand. Dunes up from the beach, packed along the beach, but some trails in places. The sand runs from the light blow sand to the hard heavy stuff. Should be WiFi. We find more WiFi available in Mexico than we do in USA. I will ask my buddy about Cell Phone & WiFi. We always turn ours off when we cross the border. Towing is pretty easy with a Motorhome. You already make wide turns so backing is the big problem. We will try to coordinate a meeting just inside Mexico Thurs or Fri so people can follow a leader to El Golfo. A biggie is the requirement of Mexico Insurance. I like Lewis & Lewis. http://www.mexicanautoinsurance.com/ El Golfo is more like Glames was 30-40 years ago when I first played out there. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico -
Sounds like a defective bolt or the bolt was over-torqued. Great to hear there was not any problems with the safety wire, silver lining! rocmoc n AZ/Mexico

Yes, there is even more primitive campgrounds and beach camping. What is important is that we are somewhat close to each other to minimize the chance of anything missing if we are out riding. A lone RV/Camper in Mexico has a higher chance of something coming up missing at the end of the day. Did I say that PC enough? You also have to beware of soft sand. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico -
First Attempted! Looking at March 20th - 22nd. staying at The El Capitan. Below is a link for info regarding The El Capitan. http://www.elgolfo.net/wst_page6.html AC will not be required but it can get cool during the night, being blankets or a heater. We have the ability to provide some very basic electrical power from our Toyhauler to a few people when the generator is running. We would arrive the 18th as the distance for us justifies a little longer stay. This is the first attempted so please provide feedback. A Trooper is desired but not mandatory!
