2014 Massimo MSU 400 engine dies when accelrating
T-boss 410 replied to blacktrain's topic in Massimo UTV SxS Forum
Yeah, I'll do that. I have a section of the service manual that was forwarded by a Massimo tech. It's the electrical section. I had some questions about some electric gremlins that I thought I had, so he was good enough to forward that section. It was useful. He's been answering any questions I have, but eventually I'm sure he will advise me to go ahead and purchase the service manual. As you said, I don't want to drop that much cash on something that doesn't cover everything that I may need. I have a few Haynes manuals, and they cover most repairs, but definitely not everything. -

I have an owner's manual downloaded. I am hesitant on spending the $75.00 for the service manual, though. Just seems a bit expensive, IMHO. I suppose I should just bite the bullet and spend the money. I was hoping that I could locate a copy elsewhere for a better price, but so far that hasn't been the case. -

So...what is the procedure for clearing the codes? -

I stand corrected! Turns out it was a sensor issue as you said earlier. I gotta say, there's way too many sensors in today's engines. I understand that those sensors are necessary for the fuel injection to operate, but I think that can be engineered out of the system. I know that it's dependent on the EPA and their rules and regulations, but a backyard mechanic could go crazy trying to diagnose these problems, unless you have the expense equipment needed to do that diagnosis. I like to fix things myself. It's satisfying for me, not to mention cheaper. You mentioned that the error codes are read through the clock? I have a digital instrument cluster. How would I read those codes? -

How do you do the trouble code tests? It would be good to know for future reference. Thanks -

I had a similar problem with a vehicle. Exhibited the same symptoms. Ignition coil was bad. It ran fine just cruising in low rpms, but give it some throttle and it would bog down and begin to misfire. To me it sounds like a fuel delivery or ignition system problem. But I don't have much experience with powersports engines. -

I guess it's easier to protect your image using the delete key than actually giving good customer service! -

Hmmm.....didn't know they were able to delete reviews, but it would explain why both websites show so many good reviews. -

Well.....I can understand your frustration with both companies. At least you did finally get the refund. But it was a lack of respect from both the companies. I don't understand why TS would charge you the 10% sales tax, and just furnish you with the documents. Were they supposed to report the tax collection to DMV? That sure sounds suspicious. -

Have you checked the coil and any connections? Are the valves adjustable, and if so, have you adjusted them? I don't know how the ignition timing works on these things, but maybe the issue is somewhere in there? -

Apparently you used to be a frequent customer of Tractor Supply. Their loss. I assume that you weren't advised that once the sale is completed, they hold no further need to assist with any issues. Another example of very poor customer service. -

I'm gonna assume that you won't be holding on to it for very long? If Tractor Supply still sells them, how can they refuse to help? That's not very good customer service. Did they give you a reason, or just blow you off? I got an email with an attached pic of the drain bolt for the coolant. At least they engineered that into the engine. It's on the water pump. -

Oh well, it was worth a shot. Any issues with the ignition system? Coil and/or wire? Maybe the throttle body is in need of cleaning? -

Sounds like it's choking out. Seems I read somewhere that the pump needs removed, cleaned, the tank needs flushed as well as the fuel line, and a filter installed in the fuel line between the pump and the throttle body. Just a thought. I read that on the internet while searching for something else. You could also use some throttle body cleaner on the throttle body itself. Get all the areas as clean as possible. -

What do you mean by the Linhai motors only have 6 months? Is that how long they are warranted? I wonder if there is somewhere in the cooling system that a valve of some sort can be installed. It would have to be in a lower location to drain properly. -

So, how does it compare currently now that you have the issues under control, with other brands? You said before that you had to pull your buddy out of the mud, so it sounds like it may be at least as good if not better a machine, except for the customer service part. I don't understand why they wouldn't have incorporated some sort of way to drain the coolant, since they recommend changing it every 2 years. Just seems like dropping a hose would be a messy way to do it. -

How did you folks drain your cooling system? I am going to replace my thermostat and fan switch, so I have to drain it first. Is there a drain plug somewhere? Thanks! -
Anyone???

I have a 2019 T-Boss 410 that I am about to change the thermostat and the fan switch on. In order to do this, I obviously will have to drain the coolant. Is there a petcock on drain plug somewhere in the cooling system that is for draining, or do I need to remove a hose to accomplish this? I am hoping that it can be done via some type of drain. Thanks!

I don't understand why Tractor Supply refused to help, since that's where it was purchased, and it happened right after the sale. That doesn't speak well for Tractor Supply. When I received mine, it was supposed to include a roof, but apparently the driver hit some bad weather, and the roof was missing. He was nice enough about it, and refunded $200.00. I contacted Massimo the next morning and requested to purchase a new roof, advising them what happened. They sent me a new roof, free of charge, within 3 days. It was missing a thumb screw that holds the hood down, and they sent me one of those, also. So I have (so far) had satisfactory dealings with them. Have you heard of any of the newer models having the overheating issues? Maybe it was tied to the Hisun engines? I have seen several examples of kits to override the fan, so I assume that this problem isn't just a Massimo problem? What I don't understand is, since it's just a matter of a jumper wire and some electric tape, why these kits are available, unless the kits include something else, such as a switch to manually run the fan? -

It sounds like you have the bugs worked out of yours. I only have 14.4 hours on mine. I haven't found a trailer, and there are no trails nearby. But I am gaining information from you and others here. I researched this machine before I put in a bid. I didn't find anything in the way of poor ratings on this particular model. Maybe I didn't dig deep enough. I will be switching out the thermostat and the fan switch soon. The reason I asked before about if it would overheat while idling is that's all I really have to work with right now. Hopefully since it's a different make of engine, it won't experience the same issues. So, I hope you don't mind if I occasionally pick your brain for information, at least until I get a chance to really get it out on some trails. -

Yeah, I guess so. But Yahama being the large corporation that it is, and the much smaller Massimo taking profits away from them, I just can't see Yahama looking the other way. But it is what it is.
