Kubota RTV 900 (2010) steering delivery tube replacement
mcraigchr replied to Howard Dare's topic in Kubota UTV RTV Forum
This sub forum is not very active. That's good or bad depending on how you look at it, I suppose. I have not encountered the issue your are describing with my Kubota. However, I did encounter something similar in my prior UTV. I did have to remove the body to get to the areas needed for repair. Good luck. I can give you the number of my Kubota dealer. They are always very helpful with DIY issues. Craig C. -
2022 Massimo Buck 450 First Oil Change Tips Needed
mcraigchr replied to Bill Hughes's topic in Massimo UTV SxS Forum
I see your point and agree with much of what you are saying, minus this: "It’s not the Chinese but the US company that set standard of what they want to sell and at what price point." The quality and quality control process of the engine production is NOT the responsibility or result of Tractor Supply. Quality belongs with the manufacturer and the factory producing the unit. Logistics and pricing pattern has nothing to do with that. Hisun owns this eff up. Not Tractor Supply. Where TS effed up was not backing a product that they endorsed. At the very minimum, my expectation of TS was a replacement, store credit or money back. My expectation of Coleman / Hisun was a warranty worth more than a pile of bovine excrement. CC -
2022 Massimo Buck 450 First Oil Change Tips Needed
mcraigchr replied to Bill Hughes's topic in Massimo UTV SxS Forum
My understanding was that Kubota made the bulk of its parts in the US and Japan. But that is merely hearsay on my part. Outside of political issues (which I shall keep to myself lest I offend a libtard), I don't have an issue with *quality made* (controlled) Chinese ... anything. I have an issue with Chinese crap being pushed as something good. There seems to be a lot of that in the power sports area. Tractor Supply, a place I spend a lot of money and have / had a high opinion of, pushes the Coleman / Hisun crap. After I started having issues with the unit, I lost a lot of respect for Tractor Supply. They completely took a hands off / 'not my problem' stance. This is after owning it for less than 30 days. So, I dealt directly with Coleman and Hisun. I can assure you, my money will not go to those turds ever again. Funny thing is, I was working a deal on a Polaris at the same time as the Kubota. Comparably equipped, the Kubota was cheaper when 0% financing was considered. Plus I got the Kubota after a 2 month wait. The Polaris dealer couldn't commit to getting anything for 9 months. Not saying these things to argue with you, just that there is more to a UTV purchase than merely price. Comparably equipped the Kubota is not more expensive when all things are considered (including cost of ownership). -

Yeah, I paid more than I ever thought I would for a UTV. $18200. But, there are clearly some things about it that drive the price increase. 1. It's a diesel. There is always a price increase for that. Power / torque and longevity are worth something. 2. It's a 5 seater / 2 seater with an expanding bed. This might be an option too on some Mossimo models. Not sure. 3. I have not confirmed this, just read it from sources that are not bullet proof. The Kubota frame is supposedly a L series tractor frame. If true, this machine is a good deal tougher than most (all?) China made buggies. 4. There is *no* comparison in the ride quality between the Hisun and the Kubota. We thought we were in a Cadillac when we got the Kubota home. lol. So, while agree with your statement about a Kubota costing more (purely $$$) ... it really isn't an apples to apples comparison. That said, I see where there is a market for the 2 seater, gas powered UTV's that cost less. It just didn't fit well for me. CC -

Gosh. Sorry to hear that. If it makes you feel any better, I took a bath on it. lol. Paid $8500. 2 years later, I got $3000. 😞 In case you're interested, here is the oil report. -
2022 Massimo Buck 450 First Oil Change Tips Needed
mcraigchr replied to Bill Hughes's topic in Massimo UTV SxS Forum
I traded it in on a Kubota. The decision was fairly easy because: 1. I sent the oil off to the lab. The report that came back was about as good as our current political environment. 2. All of my other equipment is diesel. I have diesel tanks for my equipment. The RTV-X1140 is diesel and has some other nice features (4 seater mode or 2 seater mode allowing for more people or more cargo). 3. Kubota was offering 0% financing for 48 months. 4. All of the rest of my equipment is Kubota and I have never had a single issue with any of it. You might be right about the head gasket. I did not check. It was under warranty and all of warranty repair places around me stopped working on them. Kinda strange that 3 different places stopped at or about the same time. I took that as a sign of future grief and traded it in a Kubota. Had nothing but good times since. CC -

I used Mobil 1 4T 10w-40 when I had a Coleman / Hisun and run Mobil 1 products in all of my vehicles. Which as others have stated, is a wet clutch so you need a motor oil that designed for that. Had no issues with the oil itself. The machine, which would make that oil resemble gritty mud after 20 hours, I had an issue with. -

Looking to buy a UTV for farm work and snow plowing
mcraigchr replied to Bill Kresge's topic in UTV General Discussion
I have had good luck with the Kubota RTV-X1140 (diesel). $18500 with 0% financing through Kubota. Nice riding machine with good torque. Has done everything I have asked it to do. Curious, why are you against a diesel? If you're looking for something strictly for farm / ranch utility, the ability to make this unit a 2 seater with a long bed when needed has been very nice for us. Avoid Coleman / Hisun, unless you like to spend lots of time cussing. CC -
My experience was mostly good. Pieces of the process left me shaking my head (#2 and #3). 1. Tranny and Hydraulic filters are easy to replace. On the first service (50 hours), you replace the filters, not the fluid. There is a youtube video out there that shows step by step. One word of caution, there are 2 places that you need to add fluid (UDT2) back for what was lost in the filter change. One is directly in front of the filters, under the dump bed. This is the tranny fill. The other is under the front passenger seat. 2. Oil filter ... what a PITA. Cannot believe that the engineers could not have made this a bit easier to get to. Filter is behind the battery. If you are a large fellow, you are going to have issues getting to it. Removing the skid plate underneath helps (loosen with filter wrench), but getting your hand in there is even harder than from the battery. 3. Fuel filter. I tried to get the bowl loose to replace the element. I have not had any luck yet. It is so tight from the factory. I was cranking on it so hard I thought I was going to break something. So, I decided to call the dealer and ask if there was a trick. They said there is no trick. Crank on it until it comes loose. Lefty loosey / counter clockwise. So, I will do that this evening. 4. Air filter. Easy. 5. Grease zerts. I only was able to find zerts at the control arms. 6 on the front, 8 on the back. Anyone else know of any other zerts? Contemplating getting the service manual. $100 seems retarded to me. But might be worth it. CC

Been there. I traded in a Coleman (Hisun) for this Kubota. Was not a fun toy to own. Craig C.

This is the most boring sub-forum I have ever been part of. lol. That could be because all the Kubota owners have nothing to talk about. That is certainly what I am seeing thus far with mine (1140). I have 16 hours (106 miles). No issues whatsoever. I will be doing the 50 hour maintenance this spring whether I have hit 50 hours or not. All fluids, all filters. I will look up some how-to's on that. Any gotchas that you know of? Craig C.

When I purchased the unit from my dealer, he wanted $500 for a spray in bed liner. I decided to do it myself. The results are terrific. Not because I'm some bed liner spraying genius ... the product went on very easy and was very forgiving. I used the Raptor package. Comes with everything you need, minus the sandpaper, air compressor, tape and plastic. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CKE7B1E/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Here are a couple of pics I took shortly after sanding, after the 1st coat and then after the 2nd coat. Highly recommend Raptor. I spent 1.5 hours sanding, .5 hours taping off / masking. Took less than 10 minutes to spray the first coat. Wait one hour and 10 minutes to spray the second coat. Easy. Coleman (Hisun) 550 first oil change
mcraigchr replied to mcraigchr's topic in Coleman UTV SxS Forum
Yes. I have a Kubota tractor (MX5800) that I have had zero issues with (300 hours). So, on top of having a trust level built up, there is a feature on the 1140 that I decided I could not live without. The back seat folds up making the bed larger. So, 2 seater with a very large bed or 4 seater with a small bed. Best of both worlds. It rides very smooth. Built like a tank. And ... I checked to make sure that maintenance would not be as tough as the Coleman. Filters are easy to get to. lol Craig C. -
Coleman (Hisun) 550 first oil change
mcraigchr replied to mcraigchr's topic in Coleman UTV SxS Forum
If you change your mind ... Kubota is offering 0% for 48 months. I bought the rtvx 1140 and a 20' tandem axle trailer (Orange Line (Kubota's Trailer Line)). Financed every cent. I usually pay cash for toys like this, but free money is too attractive to pass up. Craig C. -
Coleman (Hisun) 550 first oil change
mcraigchr replied to mcraigchr's topic in Coleman UTV SxS Forum
Yes, mine was a 2019 according to the title. I took a bath on the trade. $3000. Probably could have gotten a little more if I sold it myself, but that's a beating and logistically tough where I am located. Craig C. -
Traded my Coleman (Hisun) 550 in yesterday on a new 1140. What a difference already! Craig C.

Coleman (Hisun) 550 first oil change
mcraigchr replied to mcraigchr's topic in Coleman UTV SxS Forum
Had a spring, not a metal screen however. Was not expecting that spring the first change. It released and shot that crap all over me. My Coleman is gone now. Traded it in yesterday for a Kubota RTVX 1140. There is no comparison. Oh, and I always put 2.5 qts in with filter change. Craig C. -
Gosh, that's a tough break for such a new machine. Coleman's carry a 2 year warranty. Assuming you bought it new, you should still be under warranty. Might be worth looking into because this does not sound like an easy issue to solve. Craig C.

550 - Diff fluid change and final drive?
mcraigchr replied to mcraigchr's topic in Coleman UTV SxS Forum
I think I am going to buy a new Kubota UTV. Special financing right now (0% / 48 mo). They'll take the Coleman in trade. I have a Kubota MX5800 tractor that I have worked hard and never had an issue. And ... it is easy to work on. So, perhaps sticking with a brand that I know works will be of benefit? Idk. Just know that I am not happy with this POS. I am monitoring the Kubota sub-forum to see what issues they have. -

Have trouble with that factory filter (removal)? That was the most I have ever cussed in that short of a time period. Talk about a goat rope. I *hate* working on my 550. It is my punishment for being an a**hole when I was younger. lol. Motorcycledoctor.com is where I get my filter. Also can get from Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N2UIZT6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Craig C.

550 - Diff fluid change and final drive?
mcraigchr replied to mcraigchr's topic in Coleman UTV SxS Forum
Ok, got the front diff done (Valvoline Dexron III / Mercon (Blue Bottle)). Rear diff Mobil 1 75w-90 synthetic GL-5. Nobody in 100 mile radius sells hypoid anything. Hoping this will work ok? Most concerning ... 66 hours. I went ahead and changed the oil for the 2nd time. I changed it at 39 hours the first time. Mobil 1 10w-40 4T. With only 27 hours, that sh*t was nasty. I could not believe how blackish gray it was and gritty. Is this what y'all are seeing? Not sure this is the mark of a good running engine? I sent a sample to the lab (Blackstone Labs). Not sure I want to know the results. Coleman 550. Craig C. -
Wondering what gun mount you suggest using. Was looking at this one: https://www.sidebysidestuff.com/quick-draw-sportsman-rack-by-great-day-inc.html Specifically, is a special mounting bracket require on the Coleman 550? Thanks, Craig C.
