Coleman UT400 shift issues , grinding .
NewtoUTV replied to Bryan g's topic in Coleman UTV SxS Forum
I adjusted the cable, it took me a few tries also. But seams to be working good now, hope it last. -
Yes all others that we looked at where 2x as much. I am starting to think it would have been worth buying others.
-
Needs to be a class action against them!
-
I beleive I figure out the issues was that the cable that supposed to plugged into that, was not. It was just hanging down. Never was plugged in from the manufacture.
-
I don't think someone disconnect it, I bought this machine new, I beleive it was never connected. I have been tring for over a year to get coleman to deal with the issues, but they will not help me. I have even filed a BBB complant and they would not even reply to them. So I need to try to figure out the issues. This being connected to the voltage regulator will probally fix one of the issues I have been having, the battery icon always turning on and off. Fingers crossed. Thank you

That was where it goes, thought it might fix my problem with the odomiter not working but it didn't. I wounder what it is for as I didn't notice anything else light up on the dash.

I have alot of issues with this machine that I'm trying to figure out and fix. Today when I was fixing the shifter I see this cable connection that is not connected to anything. I looked and can't find where it might need to be. Any ideas would be greatfull.

Tonight, I finally got to doing this and it fixed my issue with the machine popping out of gear. I did it slightly differently, by cutting the existing and welding a piece on to it, to make up the 3/4". I'm not a welder so the welds are not pretty. -
Rainman the gap you set did it work out at .8mm, I have this issue all the time with the plug being covered with carbon. I have been setting thye gap at .6.
-
Have you solved this problem, I seam to be having the same issue. Lucas do you have a link to the part that you purchase that you could share.
-
Greg I will take a look at these.

I checked the air filter and it is installed correctly. Attached is picture of the last plug I replace. After I changed the plug it starts up with no issue.
-
I will check this today
-
I put in what the manual indicated, DR8EA (NGK) so apparently I should be using a different one. This will be the 4th one I have put on. What one should I be using? I'll post a photo of the plug tomorrow.
-
I have putting nothing but ethanol free 90 in it since day one. I'm referring to fuel/air.
-
I changed the plug again and it stopped starting up. I checked the plug and it has a ton of carbon on the end. I maybe ran this machine for an hour and the plug looks like this. Am I correct thinking that the fuel mixture is to rich?

Greg I contacted Coleman, it took 2 months for a response via email and they asked for info I got it back to them within a day and then once again no replies. I ended up calling there number a week later and the person on the phone found a repair place that was 100 miles away and they said I needed to take the unit there. What a joke, worst company I have ever dealt with! I will never by any products from them again. Nothing, no camping stuff, nothing! I will look at your post regarding shifter. There are two more issues also, but not important at this time.

Hi aefon88, yes the fuel pump runs, I changed the spark plug today, it was black. After doing that it started right up and also runs better. Still popping out of gear, I see Greg's post I'll take a look at that.

We have been using it, about 5 days ago after about 6 trip between the house and the barn, which is 400' it just died and would not start. Today tried to start it and it would turn over but not stay started, I purchased a new spark plug Ill install in the next few days. The original spark plug is in the machine, so hopefully it is that. I did try to adjust the shift cable to see if I could keep it from popping out of gear, that went so so, appear to have very little tolerance for what what to tighten the cable.

Update, I contacted Coleman service, took way to long to get a reply. The closest service is 100 miles away and I need to get the machine there, Not going to happen! So I guess I'm stuck trying to fix this stuff! It currently is not working as it will not start. The battery indicates 12.8 volts, it will turn over but will not run. Most likely going to change the spark plug first, then look at a new battery. I just love that this machine has not worked properly since day one, I should have taken it back to the store we got it from. Very angry with Coleman and as of right now will never buy any more products from the company! Wish someone from Coleman would scroll these post and do something about there terrible service!

I got a trickle charger and connected last night, this morning it started and the volt was 12.8. In the next few days I will test.
-
Greg thank you. I'll see if I can do some of this during the weekend and then update.
-
Greg, when I get a moment I'll see if I can adjust that cable. I checked the battery yesterday and it now indicates 11.7 volts. One thing I forgot to mention is when this all happened I was using the wench a lot, with the engine running. So I am guessing that is why the battery is low, but should the engine not be charging the battery. I will also check out the other items in your list. Thank you

Haven't heard from Coleman, image that. So, I tried to start it today and it just clicks, this is the part that the sound comes from. The fuse that is on that line is good.
