  1. Hi, not familiar with the brand but speaking from someone who bought a Chinese knock off of one of the major brands just make sure parts are available and will continue to be available. In hindsight I would have rather paid the extra money to buy a name brand, Polaris, Yamaha etc as parts are much easier to come by as well as service manuals and aftermarket items. One last thought, take a look to find out if there is a good support group out there for that brand. I found one for mine at that has been a life saver. I found mine on facebook groups.
  2. I need to pull the trans to try and weld up a crack. Anyone had experience with pulling the trans? One service manual says you need to pull the engine to remove the trans? If I cannot get the cracked welded up I will have to consider another trans which is more money than I wanted to spend. Thanks.
  3. Actually ElbowRoom I went back to your link and found a 2014 manual and its for sure different than the later versions. It references XPS oil which is BRP (Can Am) so that is what I am going with for the gearbox and engine. The diffs I will go with the what the 2014 manual references which is SAE 80 or something close. Thanks to all for the help.
  4. One more thought...is the original 2013 ODES 800 just look like a BRP Rotax and not really the same? I can tell you that I ordered the same oil filter and O ring for the BRP Rotax 800R and everything fit up nicely. That doesnt mean the internals are the same but just curious if anyone can confirm. The more I think about it maybe this is really what is going on that the ODES is a rip off of the BRP Rotax but not necessarily using the same quality or guts? Thanks.
  5. Thanks ElbowRoom for the link but how do I know that the Dominator X (Debuted in 2015) is the same as my 2013 as related to the eng and trans? I remember reading where it sounded like the ODES started off using the BRP Rotax and switched later in there own drivetrain or no truth in that? All the manuals that I have found are not specific to the 2013 and so far what I am finding is that the newer ODES recommends GL-4 SAE 90 for the gear box. The BRP Rotax all the way back to 2011 recommends the GL-5 75W-140 for the gear box. From what I know you cannot mix and match those oils as the additives in the GL-5 will eat up the internals of a gearbox designed for GL-4. Thanks.
  6. Thanks Travis. I had found the manualslib link and its helpful but didnt get into much beyond the eng and gear box oils so the other link you sent might serve better. Much appreciated. Any confirmation if the powertrain in this year of the 800 is actually the BRP (Can Am) unit? What about the clutch? Is that a common brand or something unique to the ODES?
  7. Hi, Anyone know how to acquire a service manual for the 2013 800? Just looking for something that describes normal maintenance like changing the gear box or diff oils etc. What about using the 2013 Can Am Commander service manual for all engine and trans related? I read somewhere that the 2013 ODES used the BRP powertrain? Anyone confirm? Thanks for the help.
  8. I just purchased a 2013 800 Dominator and the ignition switch is finnicky...meaning sometimes the only way it will start is to only turn the key about 2/3 of a turn vs all the way to the stop. Its a different issue than yours as my starter will actually spin but it wont actually fire/start until I back it off slightly. I have never owned one of these before so I am learning as I go.
