Gutwrencher, if I remember rightly you were tossing up between the Trooper, the RZR-S or a Ruesch on Riding Az & as you had already been to T.Js showroom, you thought the Trooper was for you. Congratulations on your new toy and as your find out once you start driving it, you will be even more impressed with it, especially with hill climbing. Cheers Mike.

JGS UTVS Only three posts and your already a valuable member of utv boards. Nice, good on ya mate. Cheers Mike

The photos I posted was from a C2 that failed or at least popped out the last gear, was after it was switched from 2 to 4wd on the fly. Not sure if the clutch was in as it was a test drive by a customer, but what you will notice if this happens to you is the small engine that drives it will stay on. Make sure you dis-connect the wires at the connection near the unit to prevent it from burning out if you intend to keep on driving or it's just a matter of unscrewing the lid and pushing the offending gear back into place. That's just incase it ever happens to you. Cheers Mike.

Gumball where I live we have something like more than a 1000 kms of seashore in a 100 km radius. That works by living on a long thin peninsular on the Pacific coast with a large number of off shore islands, three major harbours and a major Peninsular off shore from us plus the Tasman sea coast only 30 minutes drive so the end result is , every one goes fishing. The reason I'm telling you this is there is an old saying that goes like this, Fish at your feet son. The meaning is you can spend 45 minutes going out on your boat to that island over there and catch a feed but you can also go just out to the 10 metre mark, catch the same amount of fish and do so in 1/10th the time & effort. That makes that saying very wise and it's fair to say we have some very wise men on this forum. Len's fix for the actuator is not only a better design, it would be easier to operate, cheeper, more sturdier and it just makes sense. He's not tiring to re-invent the wheel just applying common sense. Please do pass on this idea to the engineer at T.J's, hopefully he will take it on board. Cheers Mike.

MegZ, bloody good to see you back too. I tell ya what, your baby got a lot of charter in her face. Again my wife says " she's real cute". There a lots of new people that have come on board and are adding a lot of good stuff to the forum. Catch up with you latter. Cheers Mike.

JGS UTVS, you are right about the possibility of it being stripped or even no power to the unit either way between us we should have it covered. Lets us know how you get on Gumball. Cheers Mike
-
Yep, it's the same unit and about 10 times easier to work on compared to the Commando. Cheers Mike.

Gumball, the small motor drives the small gearing through two cogs that turns the final gear inside the black cylinder casing that drives the small locking pin that comes out directly underneath the black cylinder on the out side of the casing. See photo, it comes out of the blue hole. Photos are here http://community.webshots.com/album/570318331EsRryW . What happens when it fails is the shaft that goes though the black plastic cylinder lifts up and the final gear cog that engages it, just spins. The fix is as simple as pushing it back in. The probably cause is switching from 2 to 4wd on the fly pushing it up and out. Gumball, I've just remembered this locker is out of a Commando and will check if it is the same unit but I think so. I hope this helps, Mike.

Let me know for sure, I will buy at least one set off you. Cheers Mike.

I guess if you know it's there it stands out more. You can hear it quite clear between 27 - 32 sec., 37 - 39 sec., 55 - 1.25 sec., 2.01 - 2.07 sec., 2.21 - 2.30 sec. and 2.40 - 2.42 sec. If you can be bothered. It's not that entertaining but if the noise does sound familiar, that could be your fix by just pulling the tab away from the offending metal plate. Cheers Mike.
-
Turn up your speakers and listen to this rattle from hell. I thought it was my left swing arm or my left rear shock spring stopper which I pulled apart but turned out to be a metal tab that's used to hold lines or wiring hard up against a metal panel.Cheers Mike.

I 2nd that. I've been here a while and struggle at times, to find what I want. Cheers Mike

Good on yar roc, I'm pleased it worked out and I'm sure a few Trooper owners will be following suit. Sounds awesome. Hey didn't Lenny say he was going to fabricate new fibreglass front guards? If that's the case Lenny sounds like a rear guard will be needed now. The same shape as the originals but flared up out of harms way. You never know, could be a nice little earner for you. Just a thought. Cheers Mike.

Gumball, this problem has been discussed before but your solution is better than I remember. That is a good idea and one I'll take on board. By the way, welcome to UTV Boards and after reading your profile, I know you are going to be another valuable member. Cheers Mike.

Your going to like it here Quacks. I hope every thing is all good over there for you after the bush fires that are still burning. We get 4WD TV over here and have seen some of the beautiful tracks around Victoria which have no doubt been affected but that's nothing compared to the huge amount of lives lost and homes burnt down. The irony is we are having amazing sunsets over here in NZ because the smoke from the fires has reached us and gives us a good show every night with red, orange and yellow sunsets. Cheers Mike.

My local 4wd spare parts dealer has been talking up F-O-L for some time now. Apparently just as good as Fox even better for a lot less. I've just noticed on his website there are no 2.0s anymore http://www.4wdbits.co.nz/ProductsList.aspx...mp;selection=18. Must be out of stock. Here is a handy F-O-L spring rate calculator http://www.f-o-a.com/calculator.html Cheers Mike

Cheers and good luck. It's the future now, so I'm sure your do well. Cheers Mike

ksimpsym, Lenny and rocmoc from now on I'm going to put you guys under the same tag. 100% full of s*** a* answers. That's smart as answers not swear words. Your all total correct, nothing new. ksimpsym, I especially know where your coming from. Four months ago USD$1,000 = NZD$800, now USD$1'000 = NZD$500. I tell you what, that really hurts. Funny thing is, I can still buy a turbo set-up for the Trooper here for NZD$1800 which is only USD$900 as opposed to what is being advertised in the States at USD$2700 which is NZD$5400. What the hell is with that? Cheers Mike

Joyner has just released this: http://www.thunderinc.com/2009_powersteering_kit_retail.pdf

Onfoot, that is very good news and good on Arctic Cat. Cheers Mike

Don't forget inner tubes. With inner tubes you can drop the tire pressure lower with more security but if you go down to 8#, bang it back up to 16# for normal use to save your tire walls. Cheers Mike.

Good info, thanks utvinwv. I've done most of that already without instructions so good to see the correct way without guess work. If anyone buys a canvas encloser give me a bell, I'll show you how to make it better with some marine hardware. Cheers Mike.

utvinwv, Lenny is right with what to do for the dust. ERV JR the main brakes and hand brake run separately and what you are describing has happened to me. The cause was a leaking left hand-brake hose that leaked onto the inside of the left rear wheel making it not so obvious but this could easily also just be air in those brake lines. Try bleeding them. The reservoir is below the middle of the rear axle. If it is a leaking brake hose, it will need replacing and to test for that, pull the hand-brake up as far as it can go to check for leakeage. Cheers Mike

Thanks Lenny, I found a supplier in Auckland and got what I wanted to know. Of interest a Lexan mr10 coated sheet is ten times more scratch resistant over Plexiglas and ten times more impact strength than normal auto glass. Don't know if he meant safety or lamented. If it's lamented, that would make it incredibly strong so think it's safety glass which is still impressive. Apparently, it is very easy to shape with an iron and fabric over the top and all race cars use them now. I was told "no problem with wipers" however I'd think auto glass would be better for that. Thanks for the offer to send some mr10 over but I'll call into these guys next time I'm over that way. As far as keeping the dust out with just a windscreen goes, in short it doesn't. Put it this way, over the Xmas break my wife, son and I went for a couple of long drives in a Trooper four seater that had a full enclosure minus the canvas doors on. Half of one of those drives was on a metal road. I was in the front with the owner and we both got covered in dust, the wife and son were in the back and mate, she was total plastered and looked look a ghost. Talk about me being in trouble, I was in a power of s*** as she was not impressed at all. After a month she is just starting to talk to me again. With the canvas sides on it will be a different out come. Cheers Mike.
