  1. I like Rocmoc's idea! When can you deliver it to my place in Utah?
  2. We seem to be an inventive bunch! how hard would it be to put the front hubs on the rear so we have a steerable rear wheel? Would that make for some tight turns? Kinarfi
  3. Mine is a 2008, a later design than Rocmoc's, if you have your thumbs on the inside of the steering wheel and hit a big rock and get nasty bump steer which causes the steering wheel to spin, you don't want it hitting you thumb. You can imagine how bad that would make your day. Take look at 1:28 in your video, it's the way you are holding your steering wheel. Kinarfi
  4. It was basically a side note on a previous post, but to adjust the center position on the steering unit, the best method I came up was to measure the voltage to the motor and then adjust the potentiometer so you have 0 volts to the motor, then turn it left and right and see if it returns to 0 when you let go of the wheel, if you turn the POT one way, you will get a negative reading, the other, a positive reading, from 0 V to 1 or 2 volts, it just makes it hard to turn one way and easy the other way, even down to tenths of a volt, in my case, .4 V, wouldn't turn the wheel, just made it favor one diection more than the other. 5. guess I didn't get any photos of the steel plate I put on, made a template out of card board, cut it out out of .010 (I think) steel and welded it 100%
  6. http://news.webshots.com/album/579959489MTrlIB here's the pictures of my cracks and fixes. You also need to learn to keep your thumbs out of the center until you get a power steering kit installed, you my break them one of these days, as far as any advice on building that stuff you mention, I know nothing about that stuff, sorry. I'm still running my repaired swingarm, haven't looked at lately maybe I ought to. My trooper fit into my garage nicely, unless it's on the trailer. goto google earth and type in 339 e 100 s, 84062 the house with the open garage.
  7. Rick, I already had the CB (circuit breaker) in my dash from my previous home made steering unit, so I used that, and hopefully, it would open before the fuse blew in over load condition an the fuse would blow immediately if the wires shorted, dual protection. I did not put a switch in the white wire, but it is a valid method. Kinarfi
  8. I just checked the manual and it calls for the same bearing on all 4 corners, I thought so but I did check, but beware, the seals are not the same on both sides of the bearing, the manual says it has an outer diameter of 65 mm on both seals, but that is wrong, it shows different values, 48 & 45mm, for the inner diameters and all are 8mm thick, I think I stated the correct sizes in my bad rear wheel bearing post. Kinarfi
  9. The white wire needs no fuse, no circuit breaker, nothing! it is only a signal wire and carries no current, put a switch in if you want to use that to turn off the steering with that method, or put a circuit breaker in the red wire/power wire. Kinarfi
  10. If I remember correctly, the white wire goes to the ignition switch, the one that is on in the first position, not the run or the start, the red wire, (I thinK), that has the big red inline fuse in it will go to the circuit breaker. The white wire is just for turning the controller on and off, the red wire is the power supply and can be tied directly to the battery and needs no switching, except as a method to disable it if desired. The black wire can go to the battery or to the frame for ground.

  12. An aircraft circuit breaker is ideal for this purpose, if you want it off, pull the button, it also protects the wiring and the unit. I would suggest a 20 amp breaker, that's what I have and haven't had it pop yet.
  13. call silverbullet for your bearing, they're an odd ball bearing and he's the only source for the roller bearing that I know of. http://i679.photobucket.com/albums/vv160/turbo800/silverbulletbanner.jpg
  14. Welcome bill and mary, please fill out the profile so we can all get to know you a little better, & who knows, maybe one of us lives just around the corner from you. check the wires where the go past the radiator, if held in place with a tyrap, cut the tyrap and re-secure the plug to keep the wires away for the radiator support, that's where mine was shorting out. Rocmoc, as moderators, we can make changes like you suggested, so I did.
  15. While you have it up on jacks, try wiggling it side to side, if more than just a little, 1/16", get it replaced, it seems they always pop and creak when they're going bad. I've replaced the rear bearings twice, the first ones looked like they had been hot on under water, ugly, and the second set failed in under 200 miles, I had ordered the roller bearings, but they were slow getting to Silverbullet, so I had to use ball bearings while waiting for the roller bearings. read this post, http://www.utvboard.com/topic/2304-rear-wheel-bearing-gone-bad/page__view__findpost__p__11258 Kinarfi
  16. I ran a piece of #10 wire to the battery disconnect switch for the positive and drilled and tapped a 10-32 in the frame near where I mounted the controller, filed off the paint for good contact for the negative, the whiter wire goes to the key, not ignition, but power on. tie the white to the key on position, #1 (dark blue on the diagram) If the system seems to favor turning left or right, put a volt meter on the leads to the motor and adjust the pot for 0 volts. Kinarfi
  17. Did you read through the pinned parts and pieces thread? it's main for troopers, but isn't the renegade the same for the most part with a 3 cylinder instead of 4?

  20. I spend hours every day in my garage, a lot of it goes to my Trooper, I just consider it a hobby, like building radio controlled cars or airplanes or electronics. Being retired, I need something to occupy my time, and just driving around in circles won't do, so I have to take somewhere to play with it. I too am 6' 4" and handicapped and I can't even get my self into an RZR, however, I do wish I had a little more leg room, but that's just my handicap needs.
  21. Has anyone had a fuel gauge sender unit fail after I repaired it? I changed mine and found the epoxy swelled and caused the glass reed switch to brake and fail. Kinarfi
  22. According to release of some sort that was supposed to be private,They fixed quite a bit, swing arm is one I remember, don't remember what else, trashed the release or I'd send it to you.
  23. Got my turn signal/light switch unit on and running, love it!!!! To mount it and stabilize it, I used 1" PVC and wrapped some glass tape, friction would work fine, aroundto build it up to go snugly into to hole in the unit, also cut the alignment piece of plastic out, on the other end I drilled out a portion of the PVC coupling I glue on so it would fit over the steering shaft housing and then cut it with a hack saw so I could put a hose clamp on it to make it secure. There are 2 red wires, one is power in (violet/yellow strip) and the other is power out to the tail lights (red/yellow stripe), Yellow is low beam (Orange), blue is high beam (brown/black stripe), the emergency flasher is black and green, but since we don't have emergency flasher, I tied the green to the red power in wire and the black to the over head lights (brown/white stripe), the yellow wires are interconnections and ended up not being used. The grey wire is for the horn. Word of advise, don't get it too close to the steering wheel, you'll be bumping the signals on all the time. Kinarfi
  24. Went for a 66 mile ride to see the fall colors coming on and picked some Elder Berries and saw some Moose, or is it mooses?
