Just don't drink the water out there, it's the water that gave it it's name. I remember on time out there, I was playing catch up with a couple of friends after falling down and as I caught up, we were all going up this loooong hill, I passed one, passed the other and remember thinking, "this hill has to end pretty, oh Sh*t!!!!, soon." As I launched the bike into the air for another 10 feet of elevation, the dune dropped maybe 20-30 feet, leaving me somewhere around 30-40 feet above ground which was still going down at a steep rate, now it's really OH Sh*t!!!!! As I landed the bike, the front tire started shaking back and forth as I was trying to get it slowed down before I hit the flat at the bottom and I was doing pretty well until I hit this 1 foot of level sand and it took the bars out my hands and I ended up sliding to the bottom of the hill. I hiked back up about 10 feet and drug the bike down to the flat, fire it back up and started playing catch up again. I do believe that was the highest off the ground I had ever been until I got my airplane, Crashed that too. Hope I can NOT EVER crash my Trooper, OOPs, Too late, that's why I have plastic fenders, that keep the mud and poo off of me. Kinarfi

Which rack are you considering?

Hi Codyjo, welcome to the forum. Here's a photo of a not upgraded ring gear; safety wires and hex heads. Here's a photo of upgraded bolts; Machined down allen head bolts, this is one of the earliest photos as Lenny & I were still developing the upgrade. The stock bolt is an 8.8 and the allen heads are 12.9. Lenny supplies back up nuts, but I don't use them, so maybe other don't either, so looking for the lack of nuts may not be proof of not being upgraded. To view the rest of the photos, Find the Prev and Next photos at top right of photo. Kinarfi Also, please consider filling out you profile so we can all get to know you a little better, Cody? does Cody refer to your name or Cody Wyo?

Seems to me I heard or read that some one had just put a lower first gear in the tranny along with a higher 5th gear. Did I hallucinate, is it even possible, how hard would that be to do? I'd even be up for that mod. Kinarfi

When I pulled the bearing yesterday, it looked fine and the axle shaft had been locktited and you could see it done it's job on the inner race. The outer race had not bonded/locktited to the hub housing and did slide out easily, it was greasy between the hub and the bearing and maybe I could see a little polishing from the bearing turning in the hub. I will do a better job of cleaning oils and from hub and bearings this time so the locktite can do it's job, the hub appears to NOT be worn. The wobble I had with the new bearing was maybe a 1/4 travel side to side at the top of the tire, not really enough to be overly concerned with, but the other bearing had none, I'm hoping the rollers have none also. I'll take some photos today. Kinarfi

Yea, let's start taking up a collection for me to get it.

I pulled the bearing and it looked good, but it did have wobble while mounted. Got rollers coming. As I was trying to get the CV off the differential, I was having a more difficult time than usual, no success at all, then I resorted to an old trick I used in high school. I have had other ask me how to get it off and I think this may as good you can get with out special tools or pickle forks or big special slide hammers. You hook one end of a 5 foot (or longer) chain around the small part and stand back and leave just a little slack in the chain and then yank on the chain, popped it off on the second snap. You need to be able to drop the grab hook on the passenger side to get past the locker mechanism. Kinarfi

I ordered one also, talked to Tyler to order it and later talked to Kyle about how it worked. While I was prerunning the jamboree with Lenny, we were cruising down a dirt road and all of a sudden, my steering decided to turn right, returned to normal for a moment, then went right again and Lenny & I took a trip through the brush, going between the road bank and a tree (Lenny, do remember if you keyed your radio about the time we did that?). It happened again later at the jamboree when Linda decided to talk on the radio and keyed the button a few times, almost took us off the road again, and I had figured out that transmitting from a radio causes interference in my design, making it turn right. While I was out for a ride at Soapstone basin, I had gotten on the pavement and was head toward Mirror Lake when I passed 4 or 5 Highway Patrol cars that had a logging truck pulled over and one of them keyed his radio and my Trooper tried to turn right again, but I had added a resistor to limit the amount torque that could be delivered, so I can overpower the motor when I need too. Anyway, these steering units sound like a good deal and I should be getting mine early next week. Woo Hoo!!!! For to day it's weld frame and order bearings. Kinarfi

No, my original bearings had failed, so I talked to Silverbullet and ordered some rollers, but told him if they were too far out, send ball bearings. Rollers were weeks out, so he gave me a real good deal on ball bearing to get me up and running. Will be contacting him today. Kinarfi

While I was out riding, I noticed a broken weld at the top of what would be the windshield to the bar going back on the right, after looking closer, I noticed the left side was broken also, but hadn't separated. Also had one of my shock limiting straps break, replaced them both today. I don't know if anyone else has shocks that can over extend, and needs limiting straps, but to monitor the straps, I have wrapped tape around the axles so that if the axle hits the swing arm, it rubs the tape off. While I had it up in air working on the straps, I checked the wheels for wobble and, unfortunately, I had some on the right wheel, and I had just put a new bearing in last month, will order roller bearings tomorrow, and also a power steering unit. What'll give me not to copy this and mail it to your wife? Come on up, got lots of beautiful area to play in. Kinarfi

My wife left me and took off with another woman She went to Disney land with my sister in law. She'll be back this evening So, I took off Tuesday and went for a ride in a place called Soapstone Basin, about 20 miles east of Heber, Utah and came home on Friday. Wish I'd had some company, but I had some good rides, put about 200 miles on the Trooper and saw some great scenery. Took a few panoramic videos and some photos, but probably not enough to do justice to the area. I have .gpx files if any one wants them, Just drop me PM with your email & I'll send them to you, I haven't figured any other way to pass them on. Any way, enjoy the photos, http://rides.webshots.com/album/580716823rWIfWR Oh yea, saw some pretty neat things, too, woke up the first morning and there was a buck deer about 15 feet from my camper pawing at the ground for what was left of a salt lick, watched him for about 10 minutes until it took off when a runner came down the road. Also saw what I thought was 3 wolves, but as I analyzed what I saw, I believe what I saw was a coyote with 2 great pyrenees sheepdogs on his tail and they were all in high gear. Kinarfi

To help get more hits for this forum, I'm unpinning this thread and will make a new thread called Soapstone Ride and not pin it. I hope others will follow suit and post their rides in a similar method. -
I called and talked to the also, mostly about how the sensing worked and the guy I talked to said it was all done in the power unit module.

Here's the components in the sender, the switches are reed switches activated by a magnetic float. I've repaired a few of them for myself and other members. Replaced mine with a capacitive sender unit that I built and need to pull out and see why it's not working, in the mean time, I just make sure it's full at the beginning of each outing.

Another thing that I found out is that the seals called for in the manual are FB65X42X8 and FB65X45X8. The first number is incorrect and does not fit, at least in mine, I needed was a 62x42x8 which has a 224250 number that can be cross referenced, LISTEN IN Silverbullet and other distributors. The item numbers are 3 and 32 in the manual.

Sure is easier the second time around, got in fixed and ready to go, so, my best half is going to Disney Land with my sister in law until Sat., so I'm gonna go camping and riding. Should someone want to come visit and go for riding or just want to see where I'm playing, go here, share.findmespot.com/shared/faces/viewspots.jsp?glId=0EaqY4Orr1mg3zFBzPdK3tDviJ17FEDOq Kinarfi

Here I go again the left side rear bearing has gone bad too. Maybe I ought to just buy the socket so I don't have to rent it. Already have the bearing thanks to Silverbullet. If you start hearing strange knocking noises from the rear, jack it up and check the play. Kinarfi

The 12 volts is the power for operating, the 5v is from the computer and is grounded and then ungrounded/floated at the sensor, the sensor acts like the light switch in your house and you are the cam, you turn it on to turn on the light in the computer and turn it off to turn of the light in the computer and computer watches for when it turns on or turns off. and it's probably an inductive proximity switch rather than a Hall effect device. Kinarfi

One goes to the ground, The other two go to the computer. ---One of those receives a 5v reference signal from the computer. ---The other one gets a, somewheres between, 0 to 5v square wave return pulse from the cam position sensor that goes back to the computer for timing information. Lenny

http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/Duralast-Camshaft-Position-Sensor/_/N-9gsn2?itemIdentifier=28917&_requestid=616650 The manual doesn't give a very clear picture of the cam position sensor, but if you take yours down to the auto parts store, maybe they can match yours, what happened to your? Here' another link for seimens cam position sensors. http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/BE36/POR_BE36_ELignt_pg3.htm Kinarfi
