Went for a ride, thought I'd share some photos
Kinarfi replied to Kinarfi's topic in Joyner UTV SxS Forum
You can be one very scary DUDE sometimes, But if it works out that that is what every one wants, I may be able to reserve some camp site at Granite Flats campground, plus some free spots fairly near by, but I'm going to wait till things have gelled a lot more. And yes some camping in my back yard would work to a certain extent, just a long ways to the trails. If this gets more serious, I will post more maps of the area. -

I drove up there from home, but here's a map with the trail from my home in Pleasant Grove, Utah I'm sure you'll recognize some of the towns like Heber and Park City too. -
Went for a ride today and it was sure pretty, lots of greenery, flowers, some deer, cool, high, drove in some snow. Actually, American Fork Canyon would make a good place for a Jamboree, there are enough trails to keep everyone busy for at least 3 day and some sincere tough stuff for those who want and some spectacular scenery for every one, it's all green scenery so maybe a few desert lovers won't be intrigued. There are golf courses near by that you drive your Trooper to. Fishing. First of several, also have the gpx file if you want it, PM with your email address.

oil filters are supposed to anti drain back , maybe your next filter won't do that, or maybe you should try a different brand.

use the same stuff you put in the differential---75-90 http://www.autozone.com/autozone/accessories/Valvoline-1-qt-75W-90-high-performance-gear-oil/_/N-25t1;jsessionid=CECE419B01CBE76544A3B46AE53875C9.diyprod3-b2c13?counter=1&itemIdentifier=373222_0_0_

That looks really good, if you want to make your own, You could use a ~24" X 2" pipe with end caps instead of the big piece tubing I used and just drill and tap the bottom cap for drain, low in pipe for the pickup and 3 holes in the top cap, one for fuel in, one for fuel return, one for vent/return to tank. When it comes to filling the tube, there are 2 themes, first is to use a low pressure pump running all the time, the other is to sense the fuel level and switch the pump on and off as the fuel level in the tube rises and falls, that's what I have. If you use something like a mr.gasket pump and let it run all the time, the fuel keeps getting recirculated back to the main tank, which may be good depending on how much heat is added to the fuel as it goes through the main pump several times, just a thought. Another thought is that once the surge tank is full and capped off, the main pump should suck fuel into it and you would only need the aux pump to bleed any air out. Kinarfi One more thought, as time goes on, water vapor turns to water and will accumulate in the tank, I made sure mine had a drain at the lowest point so I could flush water, dirt, etc. and if I need a bit of gas to wash a part or to build a fire while out, I have an easy access point to my fuel. Started looking for my write up on my surge tank, couldn't find, but here's some photos of the build. first of several

Does the surge tank eliminate the engine dying while going down steep declines? Where did you mount yours? YES, that is the reason I put mine in, and I had that problem several times before I figured it out and corrected it with a surge tank, have you read the topic on my surge tank yet? I actually prefer the original (short) filler tube. Although it isn't in the most convenient location for filling, it is reasuring to me I can look inside and confirm exactly how much fuel I have. Also, I can look inside and see if there is debris in my tank--especially in the suction & return ports. Your correct about that part, makes me want to install a light inside mine so I can see what's in there, I did run a tube up the side of my tank so it would server as a sight glass, but it doesn't work too well and it's always dirty. My first one had the support tabs break off. The second came with more support tabs and a longer, easier access filler tube, don't what mods you want to make while it's out, but you may want to add the surge tank and aux fuel pump and definitely beef up the mounts or maybe rubber mount it. If you have the short fill tube, cut it off and relocate it for easier filling and reconnect with rubber hose. Really no sense in scrapping what you got, but it's always an option. Kinarfi

Lenny's got it correct, but another $150 per year, after about a hundred dollar purchase, If you carry a spot and are or get disabled, you can push one button and family and chosen friends get notified as to where you are and that you need help, press the 911 button and the search and rescue people get notified where you are and that you need help. That's what I use. plus you can have it track you. kinarfi

Pretty good, My son joined us, he was on a KTM 950, but at the end of the first day my back was hurting and I was feeling kind of sick, did get 90 miles in of beautiful scenery. Mosquitoes were plentiful, used lots Avon skin so soft bug guard with Picaridin, seemed to work pretty well, but they were still there being a pain. Kinarfi

Those flat sided balls are cracked and broken balls, not ground down. Got my bearings and got them in and ready to go for a ride tomorrow, hopefully for a few days up above Mill Hollow Reservoir near Woodland. N 40 28 39 W 111 07 18 and do some exploring of roads I haven't been on yet, in beautiful country.

I am correct, the unit at the bottom of the radiator is a thermal switch that is open until it reaches a set temperature and turns on the dash light at that point. Kinarfi
-
Use any regular brake fluid, same as a car, there are two temp sensors on the trooper, one under the distributor that works with the computer and one at the bottom of the radiator that turns the over temp light on. I think this is correct, I'll try to check mine out later today. (read my signature) Kinarfi

post the dimensions of that washer too so we know what to look for, I forgot most of the info, but I think it had a .6" hole in it.

One other possibility is a simple on off switch and push button to start, Down side is anyone can start and drive your rig with no key, Or you can use a single pole key and not have the accessory position. If this idea appeals to you let me know & figure out the connections for you and post them. Kinarfi

Just a little comment about our Troopers and the high gear ratio of the differential, while at the jamboree, I learned that the engine & transmission are out of the vehicle that has them mounted in the transverse position (sideways) and that the drive lines usual go directly to a wheel, but mounted inline as they are in our Troopers, they had to add a differential to send the power to each of the wheels and that's why we can only do maybe 60 mph and have a relatively low first gear, If it were possible to send the power to the wheels without the differential reduction, these things would scream, probably kill us all too because they are not that stable at high speed, IMHO but wouldn't have the hill climbing power that we now have. Just my 2 cents worth. Kinarfi

The black wire going to the fuel pump is tied to several other black wires in the harness some where, so for testing purposes, run a wire from the neg terminal to chassis ground and then hook a jumper from the batter or your battery charger or what ever source you have to the positive terminal after you disconnect the regular wire and see what happens. The pump pulls several amps, so a light weight battery charge may not work and they don't provide a solid DC either. Kinarfi

Bearing is out, , the hub looks great! pretty sure I didn't spin the bearing, broke? definitely!!! Any one know the part number for this so I can order from a parts store? They don't seam to like 65 X 35 X 35 and the only number I can read on the bearing are 355620K and that doesn't work for any either. The photo is the first of 4 Kinarfi
