  4. Fasted61, does your system still use the stock steering rack? Where is the turn force applied, if stock rack, how has it stood up to the power of you hydraulics. Can you take a photo or two? Thank You, Kinarfi

I went with electrical because it's what I know and I had toyed with the motor control on a different project earlier and hadn't got it all to come together, so this project was interesting and practical. My first design was 2 relays and a switch to energize one or the other and it worked relatively well. The latest design was extremely interesting and fun and intriguing and challenging and only took a little over a half year to develop. (I'm Very Proud Of It) It's always smart to keep your thumb out of the center of the steering wheel in case something grabs a wheel, with this system, I feel safe with my thumbs on the inside. It's also so much easier than hydraulics, the alternator is already there, so no pump to figure out how to mount and the hose is just #10 wire. We'll get some photos up shortly. Kinarfi

Even after replacing the the original bolts with higher grade bolts and making sure they were good and tight, I had the left lower ball joint fall out again while driving hard down by Moab, I was lucky that the tire folded in and kept everything up out of the dirt, just scarred the inside of the rim. I got it back in and continued on and had a good time anyway. I don't expect to have the same problem again after this fix. I drilled the hole bigger in 1/64 steps to 29/64 and the threaded it from the back side, put a bolt in the back side to keep the drill from going in too far and continued drilling from the front side up to 1/2" and put the bolt in with a nylock nut on the back side and torque it all up to 90 lbs. It appears that our power steering kit will also fit the early Troopers with the front gas tank, Lenny & I have decided to include a Joyner-Trooper-T2-Steering-Looseness-Fix-KIT, mentioned earlier, to make this a better steering correction and upgrade kit. jamesrulz, unfortunately, the turn radius is limited by the outer CVs in the front, this issue was explored by myself and Lenny in the past. At this time, we have a tentative price of around $800.00. Photos will be added as soon as possible, about a week or so. Kinarfi

Haven't done 60 mph yet, don't know if I ever will on purpose, The way this Power Steering Unit work is it has a Dead Band where the system works to prevent bump steering and hold the steering stable in it's current position, I have let go of the wheel on multiple occasions with no ill effects. As you turn the wheel, relative to the wheel position, it comes out of the dead band, but adds no assistance, as you apply more torque the assistance goes from 0% to 100%, proportional to input torque on the steering wheel and as you apply torque to the steering wheel, the power assist is trying to catch up to the steering wheel, If you reach the end of the travel and continue to apply torque, the unit senses this and shuts down the motor until the wheel is relaxed. I've enjoyed it on my rig immensely, especially with my injuries. Kinarfi

  13. http://www.utvboard.com/index.php?s=&s...post&p=2558 I don't know if you've read this thread, but it's kind of a story about a power steering assist that Lenny and I have been working on. I made one out of a power-wheels toy motor and liked it so well that Lenny and I have been working on a design for about 6 months and it's getting real close to a marketable device. So far, it's looks like it will just a bolt on and maybe, maybe not a cut in the steering shaft. We haven't got a price yet, but I've got the electronics pretty much finalized and in use on my Trooper. Real nice, some of the features are that it resists bump steering really well, you can even let go of the steering on a rough road and it still goes straight or continues to turn if you were turning. I was real happy with my shocks, on the ride from a little after getting stuck, I had the speed up quite a bit because I knew I had a long way to go and everything stayed hooked up, my says they were comfortable and says she thinks she felt the straps a few times. The right side slider between the springs started making noise though, like it was sticking and not sliding well, haven't looked at it yet. Kinarfi

Here's 3 of my 41 photos, Had a great trip over all, the weather was perfect, the skys were clear, we left the top off of our tent so we could see the stars, only saw one satellite go over but saw a bunch of shooting stars. The only bad things Trooper wise were my left front lower ball joint fell out again and the spring separator on the left rear shock start making a lot of noise and had a real hard time getting started one morning, had to pull it to get it lit up. First day was out to Chicken Corners and up Lockhart Trail, chose a bad line and got hung up, some motorcyclists gave me a push back down and then watched as I came up on a different line, almost ran over one of them with my left front a good two feet off the ground. That was the worst of that trail except we kept going and ended up having to get back to camp via the highway and I was traveling about 55mph for a long time and blew some oil out, had to add a quart the next day. Met my son from Logan out there, he had crashed on his motorcycle, so he stayed in camp and left for home the next day. Second day, we went up Kane Spring Road and about half way up we checked the ball joint, looked suspicious, so I put the jack under it and heard/felt it slide back in, tightened the bolt some more and continued on. We got into the river bottom and had a great time, fun, smooth, pretty, sandy, wet, big trees, lots of tamarack. Ran into some broke down motor cyclists that I had met the day before and they had a broke bolt on the sub frame of one bike, so I gave them the pivot pin from the passenger seat because he thought it would work and they could finish their ride and when he offered to pay for it, just told him to pay it forward. That how we all survive out there. But we were worried about our son, the ball joint and tired, so we headed back to camp and lunch and head home for a doctor's appointment. Got back to camp, ate, broke down camp and headed home, my son was there and spent the night and headed home to get xrays the next day, we washed the Trooper and are resting. It was so nice down there, everything just went well. Enjoy the pictures I attached a .gpx file, download it and drop it onto google earth, It's my whole trip all added together into one file.

  17. Some of us have replaced the bolts in the ring gear already and I have replaced my rear diff with a new one that I changed the bolts on. Will Joyner reimburse me for my damaged, faulty, poorly built read differential? Kinarfi

  21. I'm just trying to torment you in fun, I totally understand your feelings and hope you forgive me, as I remember, you do have quite a rig to drag around, nice rig though. I imagine Farmington has some good places too, and like you said, go north and you get into the Durango and the likes, Been there once, but was visiting family and not exploring. If there is local support and leadership in Farmington, it may be a very good place. Not pushing Utah but, as far as I know, you only got to see the red rock beauty of Utah, and not all of it at that, there is lots more and of course forest area is forest area and it's all beautiful, which ever state has it. If Joyner gets more popular, there may have to be more than one Jamboree, say a North and a South and an East and a West, that would be fun for us retired folk.   23. I mentioned earlier that I had changed to a K&N 4160 and used the stock Joyner Prefilter. It's been said that it is silicone coated. When I washed the prefilter, it accepted water with no problem, so I doubt it has any silicone left on it, if it did have any on it. I wonder if spraying it with something like "Camp Dry" silicone would be helpful?

  25. Removed horn button and put it in the center of the steering wheel. Sweet. The light turned out to be the lug was poorly crimped onto the light's lead wire.
