  1. I found that after 71 years old, the loads are automatically limited....by me..... I take more, but lighter loads, and take more breaks than I used to. 😉
  2. I added lights to the Coleman Outfitter 550 last fall. I bought lights on line from Nilight, a 300 W 12" light bar mounted forward and 2 square 4" floods for the rear. Those are mounted on the roof corners facing rear and downward just beyond the tailgate. Nilights seem to be of high quality, as I've had them on my garden tractor for 5 years and still flood the way ahead with great light. Both the front and rear lights provide amazing illumination making the OEM headlamps look like parking lights. Made a connector for the front bar that plugs into existing headlamp switch so it is just part of that circuit controlled by the headlamp switch. Rear work lamps were wired in using a rocker switch installed in the dash. Backed up to the garden with the work lights and was able to harvest some tomatoes well past sunset. What have you used if anything for auxiliary lighting on your UTV?
  3. Use low range, less stress on clutch and belt.
  4. Many of these work beds are gas shock supported. But if you get close to 500 lbs in the bed, its a chore to dump. Once the logs start to roll off, it pops right up. Not sure how long those gas shocks last though. Looking again at the pics it almost looks like something was attached to those eyelets and maybe jerked under load, fracturing the plastic they are mounted to. Just a guess.
  5. Good point. I agree, the oil specs can be a little confusing. The oil I bought for first oil change is designated for wet clutch application. Found it at O'Reilly's near me. Gotta wonder how many folks really pay attention to that since I think I remember that the wet clutch shares the engine lube.
  6. My Coleman (Hisum) bed is plastic. It has taken a lot of abuse from firewood both rounds up to 18", and spits tossed into it from several yards away. Knock on wood, it is holding up OK, but I know that the Asian plastics can become unstable over time and brittle. We'll see.
  7. Ya, I guess the clutch is the main wear spot for heavy pushing. I use a JD garden tractor to push snow, but have wondered about utilizing the UTV for that. So far, I have only used this UTV for hauling wood from the woods to the barn for splitting. I live on hillsides so there is a lot of work going up and down hills as it is.
  8. A while back I was looking at an auction UTV plow and the mounting of it. Looked like it had an "H" bar with two pins that hooked into brackets on the front frame of the UTV. I have a bunch of 1/4" x2" angle iron, and some 2"x1/2" flat stock in the barn. I was thinking of welding up a bolt on implement mount that would provide 2 holes about 14" apart, that pins could be used to hook up an "H" frame for a plow or even a straight bar across with pins to hold it in place. The angle iron "A" would utilize the existing bumper mounting bolts front and bottom, and have the two channels "B" with holes for individual pins or one large bar across. Those channels would be welded to the ends of the angle iron. Anyone ever try this for a front mount? It would be close to this one that is for sale on the net. It is supposed to fit a KFI plow mount.
  9. Just finished rebuilding a small deck on a side door. UTV used as a work and saw station. Humidity high and 85 degrees. Very little air movement in the work area. Done now, both the job and me. Cool basement office awaits a few hours of nice cool temp.
  10. My Coleman Outfitter (Hisun) 550 also had no grease in any of the greaseable fittings. Looks like assembled with the parts as is, and shipped for sale. Best to go over almost everything just to be sure.
  11. Whether we use helmets or not use helmets, the core issue is personal responsibility. Charles Darwin had a theory about survival of the fittest, and I doubt if that theory applies only to the physical aspect of evolution. I see ads for UTVs and ATVs with wild speeds and maneuvers in deserts and forests. Trail riding like that might suggest a helmet might be a good idea. Yet, no helmet or seat belt, or any safety system for that matter, can protect anyone from irresponsible actions. Hit a tree or bury the front end in a gully at speed, and it just isn't going to end well.
  12. Only use the UTV for work around my 10 acres. Hard top and roll cage, and don't use a helmet. Too much in and out of the seat for small jobs here and there. I don't race around in it either. Its a mini work truck. Nice to haul rounds out of the woods to pile and then split. Then the splits down to house for the wood burner.

  14. Been out doing some light tree trimming on the UTV. Especially branches that tear my hat and glasses off as I mow around them on the ZT.. Getting warm and humid here in Michigan. I don't do well anywhere above 80 degrees or 70% humidity. Now back in the basement "office" checking in on UTV Board. 😀
  15. I would consider moving the filter away from whatever heat source that was hot enough to melt the plastic. There is no telling where a previous owner may have inserted the filter in the fuel supply line, perhaps close to something hot.
  16. Late to this post but notice that oil change was in the commentary. I think the Coleman Outfitter 550 uses a wet disk system that shares oil with the engine crank case. Like some motorcycles. I think the oil used has to be compatible with JASO MA ratings like those for motorcycles.
  17. I have a Coleman Outfitter 550 purchased in January 2022 that runs and operates pretty well. 65 hours on it so far. It is a work vehicle for my 10 hilly acres with two 1 acre woods and 5 acres of "lawn". The rest is under a lake. My parking brake does not seem to have any grip. It worked when new but after a month or so, it is just almost useless. I press the parking brake pedal hard until it stops. Still, it won't hold even on slight inclines. I don't see the caliper move as I press the brake pedal down. There seems to be plenty of pad left on it and the rotor is shiny as if it is rubbing a little when applied, but not enough to stop it from rolling. Any thoughts on possible causes?
