  1. Is it possible to add a low gear to the Coleman ut400? If so please help. Ty
  2. Hello to anyone who reads this. I am Jon and I own J&M Outdoor Power, a very small, small engine repair shop. I was approached by Coleman about 6 months ago to become one of their Warranty Centers. I recently received 3 different UT400's and a UT500 all with similar issues. These units range from 2 months to 2 years old. Customers state that the unit(s) was/were running fine, then heard a pop and a loss of power, two would no longer start. The two that would run would not achieve normal operating speed (around 20mph I would say) without redlining the RPMs. I quickly found that the Valve lash on each unit had become too large on some(both intake and exhaust) and too tight on one(just intake). After setting the gaps to .005(I found multiple different people suggesting bigger and smaller gaps, but no definitive Coleman Spec number yet) every unit starts, runs, and achieves top speed without issue. I don't know how many others have come across these issues, and I wanted to get something out on the web for others in the same predicament. Please let me know if you have had similar issues. Edit: I realize that this will not be a fix all solution for this issue, as the oil level and condition should be verified before moving to the valves. Many times improper oil conditions will cause valve lash to change. These units all have good oil and proper oil changes.
  3. I have a 2021 colman 400utv engine will start and idle, as soon as you hit throttle to move engine dies and will only start when you throttle it, let off throttle it dies, I replaced the injector and plug still the same, anyone have any other ideas
  4. Bought a Coleman 400 UTV (pretty much a Hisun), the previous owner tried to replace the timing chain, couldn't time it properly and sold it to me. After some hours I figured out how the timing all is supposed to be set (I think/hope) and as I am reassembling, I noticed that the water pump gear was awfully hard to spin. I held the gear with my hand and spun off the impeller. I checked the bearing, spins great no obvious issues noticed other than this o-ring which seems to be out of place? When I remove this o-ring and reassemble the WP, it seems to spin nice and easy without a drag. I looked up the service manual (although very inaccurate info there often) and don't see this o-ring present. Am I missing something here or what? Any input? This is not easy to access once the engine is back in the machine so would like to avoid having to deal with this if it becomes a problem.
  5. Hi all I have a 400 cc Coleman quad it's made by hisun I had a year it was great now it splitters badly after 10 mph . It does get better when it's not but just borks out . Can any1 help it's year is 2018
  6. My Coleman 400 UTV is about a yr old started it up yesterday parked it outside..later on the day it would not start. Has gas, cranking trying to start but won`t turn over. looked at trouble shooting tips and it said check spark plug. Where is the sparkplug located and any other suggestions
  7. You will quickly see that I am new to this and don't quite know how to pose this question. I gave myself a Coleman 400 UTV for my 65th birthday a month ago."To Yaya: From Yaya" I've noticed a couple issues. First, as I drive around our acreage, sometimes it just putters, almost sounds like it's going to turn off. The other issue is the lights on the dashboard that correspond with forward, neutral and reverse don't match up to the actual gear. Sometimes it does but most of the time it doesn't. What I mean is that when I put it in forward to drive, the reverse light will be on the dashboard light. Sometimes it will be the forward light. When I put it in Neutral, sometimes the light on the dashboard /N lights up and sometimes it doesn't. Lastly the gas gauge does not register. Although the tank is almost full, it shows E / Empty.
  8. What rear differential will work in my 2020 Coleman 400 utv ? I have tried one for a hisun 400 but it is not the same.
  9. it looks like the rubber gasket that is used to weather proof the main instruments ( signal light, speedometer , tachometer, etc) on my Coleman 400 UTV that I purchased in the fall of 2021 is falling down across the instruments. This is obsuring all of the indications at the top and is now affecting the operation of the tachometer since it forms the circle around the tach. Anyone else had this problem? is this something that I can take apart and fix or is this something that is sealed?

  11. I have a 2021 Coleman 400 from TSC. Got it slightly used with 20 hours on it. Started from scratch with oil change Iridium Spark plug fuel filter Is there a diagram anywhere that shows where all of the grease fittings are at to make sure that I don’t miss any? On the rear brake it seems to be engaged slightly when moving. The parking brake is not set and released, do I need to start looking at the caliper to see if it can be adjusted to open it slightly or is that an E brake adjustment? Not sure and wanted to get opinions before I start jumping into things I don’t need to! It’s just engaged enough to make a slight squeak. Any suggestions are most welcome. Thanks
  12. I have a 2021 Coleman UT 400. The weight capacity of the rear cargo was only 330 pounds and it’s sags with just 100 pounds in the back. I’m wondering if anyone has any insight on upgrading the rear shocks, and/or springs to give it a better weight load capacity? I’m sure all the popular shock brands out there like Elka suspension do not carry them for these particular models so if anyone has ever ran into this issue and has any ideas on upgrading the shocks and I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
  13. Bought my coleman u400 from TSC last year, was running great. I live on a lake and use it almost daily to climb a pretty steep hill from my house down a path to the water. Last week was driving up the hill and it just quit. First thought was I'd run out of gas but it has almost a full tank of gas in it. Have tried to get it to restart and the lights come on and it tries to turn over but won't catch. Checked the battery and tried to jump it just in case but it's not that. Checked the starter and it's good. Can't find the spark plug to even check that. I called the local repair guy in town and he told me he doesn't work on Hisun since it's all shit and I'd be better off burning the damn thing so that's been no help. Would appreciate any other ideas.
  14. Enjoying getting a 2020 Coleman HS400 UTV-5 basket case put back together. Finally got to start the engine tonight and let it warm up. Have been able to find most of the missing pieces on ebay, motorcycle doctor, etc., but now I am looking for a cvt clutch cover. It appears to be the same as HISUN, MASSIMO, Bennche, and some others but can't put my finger on one yet. coleman power sports shows it on their site so I ordered it and got an order confirmation but haven't heard boo since and can't get a response to my inquires. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Glenn
  15. Got what I hope was a good deal on a Coleman 400 aka Hisun HS400. Previous owner returned it to TSC and it wouldn’t start. I pulled the plug and it’s fouled. Cleaned it and it sputtered, but fouled again. I did test for spark after cleaning and had a nice white spark. Plug is an NGK R DR8EA. I will be getting a new plug and a fuel filter to install inline. I was going to open up the fuel tank and check for debris and drain the tank as I have no clue how old the current gas is. Currently it won’t start so just trying to get it going so I can trouble shoot the rest. My plan. Pull airbox and check for obstructions and clogged filters, replace. Crank and check plug. Disconnect 02 sensor and see if it starts Check timing chain tension Any other things I should look at. The plugs seem to have some oil, but that could be carbon? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Just purchased a Coleman UTV 400. Drove off trailer and parked with no issues. Put some gas in the tank, and went to use it, and it beeps when shifting into F or R. The parking brake light may be on, and not sure fuel gauge is working. I’ve ensure the brake is releasing, and I put 5 gallons in, so I’m baffled. Are one of these the issues or does something else cause the beeping?
  17. Changing the oil on the vehicle. replacing oil filter too. Holy crap. tight spaces, over-torqued filter. cant get it off. Have tried every filter wrench out there. cant get a good angle for me to torque it off. Ideas?
  18. Hi, I'm a mechanic and am at a loss for a customer's 2021 UT400. This thing only got used for the end of the summer, only has 3.3 hours on it. So far I've found: No start - starter switch works, relay in relay/fuse box clicks. Solenoid is operating as it should, no signal to solenoid to start. Starts and runs when I hard-jump the solenoid. No F or R lights on dash - N lights up, and goes off when shifted into either gear No brake lights - tested switch, it works as it should No turn signals Parking brake light is on - switch is working correctly, doesn't change status All connectors are secured, no wires look out of place. I have an incredible dislike for HiSun equipment. Every one I've dealt with has been full of gremlins. Has anyone else had any issues like this? Would this be something wrong with the dash? Or the relay/fuse box? or both? I don't want to contact Coleman and have them send a bunch of stuff that won't fix it, especially with how long electronic stuff takes to get these days. The last warranty I did for them was a go-kart that shelled the drive shaft bearings and it took 4 months for them to send us the parts. Any help or knowledge would be much appreciated!

  20. New UTV owner, but not new to motorcycles, worked as Suzuki mechanic in H/S and college, as well as raced a lot of amature MX. So I am not uncomfortable around engines. That said, wife decided to get me a UTV for Xmas, and the local Tractor Supply had one that fit the bill, so we took it home. We only have 10 acres, so I intend to use it putting around the place, etc. Been running premium with some Sea Foam in the gas. Only have 4 hours on it, but so far there are 3 things that are driving me nuts: 1) vibration when taking off, almost feels like loose motor mounts. I suspect this might be the CVT, maybe belt break in, and may be just the way they are.? 2) stalls when stopping. So far it seems to do it mostly when it has not been run for a few min, or after a long stretch down the driveway and stopping quickly. I put a new stock plug in it, that seemed to help. I have a couple of Irridium plugs on the way. 3) Tailgate rattle. I hate noises and rattles. And as rough as it is when it takes off, it really rattles the tail gate or box. I have tried to isolate any and all components, but so far have not been 100% successful in identifying it. TIA
  21. Can anyone tell me the correct oil filter & where to buy it other than paying $25 for it on Coleman website ? Can i order it on Amazon? Bought UTV at Tractor Supply but they don't carry oil filters for it (how stupid is that??) Help would be MUCH appreciated!
