Looked at a lot of UTVs lately. Couple Questions about Hisun. Some people say they are just cheap with no customer service. Other people seem to have no problems with them.

Any opinions on Hisun reliability?

Heard parts are hard to get. Is that true?

If you had one and didn't like it what do you recommend?

I think you'll find that there is a much larger percentage of people that have had issues with Hisun et al.  (Coleman, etc) than with any other brand.  I had a Coleman 550.  Which is just a Hisun with Coleman badges.  I had problems from the get go.  Customer service is a joke.  Finding someone to work on it was impossible for me ... partly because I don't live in the city.  So, I did the work myself.  Until I just got sick of it.  A UTV needs to be like a toaster.  You get in and go.  Do some maintenance after 50+ hours.  Then get in and go again.  Parts were hard to find.  Even something simple like an oil filter that actually fits was difficult. 

A Hisun UTV reminds me of owning an old boat.  I spent more time working on it than using it.

I went with a Kubota as a replacement.  RTV-x1140.  Could not be happier.  Just did my 200 hour maintenance.  Won't have to touch it again for 200 hours.

Hisun support is non existent, and their service manuals leave out a lot. The user manuals are also pretty lacking and out of date.

I wouldn't buy one without being somewhat mechanically inclined. You will need to do some services relatively soon after purchase as they tend to come poorly assembled and adjusted, especially if you buy one from a big box store since the final assembly will be done by a 19 yr old who doesn't know what they're doing.

Parts are easy to get from a number of sources and a lot are common across many of their models. Hisun themselves don't sell parts retail, but a lot of smaller vendors do, as well as dealers. You won't be getting them from the auto parts store however so expect a wait for shipping.

Some people seem to get lemons, and that seems to be more of what you see posted. That's common across brands, most people aren't searching for a forum to post about how their UTV has been flawless for 5k miles. I have my suspicions that some of the issues are more poor adjustment and lack of proper maintenence related.

The actual EFI systems on these things are relatively easy to troubleshoot with free software and about $30 on cabling, I posted a tutorial on the Coleman forum.

To each their own. You might have better luck with a name brand, but my experience has been the MSRP quoted on the website is much lower than the out the door price from all of the local dealers who love to add thousands of dollars in fees. That's pretty much why I went with a Coleman. I did a lot of research and had read the entire service manual before purchasing, found parts sources etc.

I have a 2016 Massimo 500 SXS and it has been a beast. I have loaded it with brush, firewood, dirt, gravel, rocks (big rocks) and it has always been a reliable, powerful piece of equipment. One hell of a tool. I have replaced the battery once and the fuel injector. If I went out there right now, it would start, run, and deliver. I cannot speak to others who have either had or have not had different experiences but as for me, I like it.

In addition to the work I had to perform on my Coleman,  I posted the results of the oil analysis I had done.  It showed that the machine was falling apart inside.  I encourage everyone to get the oil analyzed no matter what brand.  It's a good indicator of what your future will be.

Having owed ATVs/UTVs for 30 years, I would strongly advise owning only major brands like Honda or Polaris.  The cheap machines are just what you pay for - cheap machines.  Be sure you know where you can get service, parts, and answers to any questions prior to buying a machine. You need a dealer and not a Lowes store when something needs attention.  I've owned Honda products which are very high quality, but I'd think hard about Polaris if I were in the market for a machine.  There are a few other manufacturers that I'm sure offer reasonable support, but a dealer is critical IMHO even though the better machines are reliable.  The forums are a good place for information of course.  If you have a trail that you plan to ride in your area, go there and talk to the people that have experience.  People really like to help.

I have owned many Hondas over the last 40 yrs.. All were absolutely bulletproof machines..  but I must say I bought a CF MOTO ATV  1 1/2 yrs ago because there were no Hondas available anywhere..   and it is fabulous..  2 yr warrantee, dealers everywhere if I need one.. But so far, oil change is all its needed.. and it smokes my Hondas.  My wife loves the automatic CVT trans and power steering and smooth IRS ...

I find your post very interesting.  I just took a quick look and they do look like nice machines, but I don't have a dealer within 70 miles that I see. Your post makes me want me to take a closer look.  If I were to be shopping for a machine, I'd make an effort to consider the CFMOTO.   My Honda Foreman ATV is about 24 years old, and it could have a premature serious problem, but so far it keeps on plowing snow and hauling firewood.  LOL

I highly recommend a test ride.. even if you have  to go70 mi .. I m 70 yrs old and rode ATVs since a kid so I speak from experience.I too have 1 Honda thats 25 yrs old and still runs.  But  I was genuinely impressed with CF MOTO. And no, I dont work for them..   We have had zero issues with ours and I do not baby them!

      As I tried to do a conversion with the Yamaha 660 motor, I realized the 660 was never fuel injected so it would not work for the fuel injected hisun motor swap. But the good thing is the hisun 750 motor is a clone of the 660 Yamaha but with the components for the fuel injection (cam/crank position sensor). So that left me with a new rebuilt Yamaha 660 and still a broke 750 hisun motor. I took apart 750 think the timing chain had broke from all that I've heard about these motors. The chain was not broke, but just off cam and crank gears! The chain tensioner was at fault!  I've ordered Yamaha 660 replacement parts, chain, two exhaust valves (which got bent when chain came off while motor was spinning) and seals. The piston has 2 little nicks where it had hit valves but no damage otherwise. The head is being redone at the machine shop and I'll be putting it back together in the next couple of weeks. Also I finally tracked down a Service Manual with all the info on the 550/750 Challenger.

      Hisun Vector E1 - Gear oils

      I've had a Hisun Vector E1 for just a bit longer than is required for me to do some maintenance. While it's well-overdue, it only drives 1.5km a few times each week on a fairly decent gravel road (to the letterbox), and it has worked really well right from the get-go.
      Looking at the manual it states that I need to use SAE80 API GL-4 Hypoid Gear Oil for the Main gear Case, and SAE80 API GL-5 Hypoid Gear Oil for the Front gear Case - unfortunately i can't find either of those online here in Australia. Plenty of options that look close, but, as someone who has never driven any vehicle before, I want to use the right thing and it's a tad confusing.
      My question: Since there are no oils that are bang on SAE80 (they all seem to cover a range) would Liqui Moly Hypoid GL4 Gear Oil 80W-90  & Motorex Hypoid GL-5 Gear Oil 80W90 - be ok to use? (Or any other suggestions of what I might be able to purchase online in Australia) And would I have to drain out any existing oil from both gear cases?
      This is a whole new world for me and  being able to find exactly what is specified in the manual hasn't made this easy!

      I just purchased a used 2023 Massimo warrior UTV SxS 1000mx with 600 miles on it. I didn't even get a full day of riding and the driver's side rear axle broke. I'm pretty sure it was already going bad because we would hear a noise once in a while. I'm wondering if anyone else has had problems with theirs. Also looking for places to buy accessories.

      2022 Hisun Sector 550 eps. Power steering not working

      I have a 2022 hisun sector eps 550. 30amp fuse is blown for eps. Checked the motor and it’s fine. Opened up the controller and found a bad diode. Dealer wanted 500$ for the controller. Just posting this in case it helps someone. I couldn’t read numbers from the old one so just took a guess and replaced it with a 100v 3amp diode.

      MY apologies if this is to much info just wanted to give yal the most information possible for help.
      I'm a so called diyer. An Electrician by trade 21yrs. I got my S×S from my last job. The contractor purchased this S×S for this specific job brand new, from Lowes. They used it for hauling materials, tools, & a little bit of anything you can think of on an Industrial type job site. 
      I remember getting on the SxS one time & pushed the gas petal all the way to the floor & SxS had very little power. 
      So anyway ,when the job finished up back mid July this year (7/2024) , I asked the contractor what they was going to do with it. I was told to take it. Otherwise it would go to the contractors yard (storage yard) & most likely rust away. 
      Took it home washed it , it had a heavy coat of dust on it & in it dust was every where. My helper & I had to push it on the trailer to get it home.  After washing it throughly I let it sit & dry out for a good day and half, maybe 2 days. Before trying to start it. NO START. Will turn over & try to start but thats it. 
      So here's what I've purchased & installed. New Air Filter, new spark plug, new air idle control valve (AICV), new throttle position sensor, new throttle body, new oxygen sensor, new digital dash speedometer/fuel gauge/clock. 
      Also drained the old oil & gas & replaced with new oil & 93oct. gas. I should probably mention that I've changed the AICV twice. The 1st time I changed the AICV I was able to get the SxS started & let idle for at least 10-15min. Drove out of the garage, with very little power,  turned it around & barely got it back in the garage.That was the one & only time I've been able to start the SxS. I've also cleaned the Throttle Body and & intake with TB cleaner.  So after that the AICV was  making weird noise so I pulled it out & tried cleaning it, pretty sure I messed it up. So I purchased a Throttle Body that came with new AICV & TPS. Still NO START.  I've checked the fuel pump & the fuel injector.  I took the injector off still hooked up to wiring & turned the key over, the injector sprayed a lot of gas out kinda the size of a volleyball. I've also checked the clearance gap on the intake & exhaust valve. But today 11/2/2024 I'm going recheck spark plug gap & the valve gaps. And alot of other checking. Would the driver side seat belt have anything to do with it not starting?? I know the driver side seat belt has to be in gauged for full throttle "going fast". Thing is the drv. side seat belt will latch but feels like might be messed up inside of it. Tired opening it up but to no avail.  I've never had a S×S or 4wheeler so I was really excited when I got the S×S,not so much anymore.  I work on & fix my own vehicles usually no problems.  But this SxS is kicking my ass.
      So if possible & someone could help me with some ideas or tell me what Im doing wrong or did wrong, I would greatly appreciate it.  Thank you for reading thus far.
