Motor Cover!

With cage mod comes a different way to cover the engine. Need input!

Choices are;

No Cover. Build framework to hold ice chest & spare tire.

Expanded metal, the stuff with diamond shaped holes & framework to hold ice chest & spare tire.

Solid alum cover with framework for ice chest & spare tire.

I am favoring one of the first two so heat is swept away. Weight is about the same between the expanded metal & alum, the difference is how the air flows thu the engine compartment. What do you think?

I would at least use perforated(flat sheet with round holes)on the bottom where your cooler sets.Will still get your air flow but it will be nice and flat.

I would go with flatened expanded aluminum or perforated aluminum. Expanded aluminum is available and you can make your own perforated sheet. Use an electricians step drill, used for drilling holes in electrical boxes. They work great on sheet and the one I have drills all the way up to 1" dia. very easy. As you can guess, a drill bit for larger holes, I'm thinking 3/4" or larger, doesn't work to well on sheet unles you use a drill press. Cant get a big sheet into a drill press. Check ebay for expanded aluminum, lots available. YOu wuld probably have enough space to put a good 3000cfm radiator fan under it to suck air from the cover down into the engine space. This would be cleaner air too.

I have ruled out the on cover option because I would not be able to haul stuff found on the trail back to camp.

Expanded metal, of some sort, will be the option.

I thought I told you that stopping here and there to pick up aluminum cans is not the road to riches.

      I swapped out the Subaru motor for a Predator 670cc. If I remove the heat shield around the muffler, The stock muffler sits in there just fine with 1" to spare.
      Only problem is the exhaust exit is toward the back seat instead of out the back.
      Do you all think that the stock exhaust would be okay (just as effective) if cut a hole and welded a pipe on the reversed (opposite) end? Of course, plug the old exit end. Other option I thought of was to roll a tube 180° with a 7" center line radius and finish extention of 12" or so.
      Any thoughts?
