Just bought a used UTV, my first SxS.  It is extremely LOUD!   Was thinking of wearing shooting ear muffs to muffle the noise but then my passenger( wife) and I couldn't hear each other over the shouting we have to do now.... On the other hand we sometime ride with my brother and his wife and would like to be able to communicate. We throught about FRS and/or GMRS radios (we are licensed for GMRS) but we'd have to wear earphones under our ear muffs. My state doesn't require helmets to ride UTVs.

I suppose if everyone has a cheap FRS/gmrs bubble pack radio with a ear phone we could all talk to one another. Just wear an ear plug in the other ear or ear muffs.

Looking for suggestions.

Well...to answer my own question I found an FRS radio that clips onto Walker Razor slim electronic noise cancelling ear muffs. Plugs right in and you can hear the radio through the muff's speakers and it has push to talk or voice activated microphone.  Since I already have a pair or those ear muffs I ordered a pair of radios to go with them on Amazon  Hopefully I'll get a chance to try them out this weekend.

These are fairly short range FRS radios, they say a mile but my experience with FRS bubble pack radios is you're lucky to get 1/4 mile. Which is fine for talking to someone sitting next to you or in a vehicle a couple hundred yards in front or behind you.

you can get bluetooth helmet speaker/mics that are meant for motorcycles that communicate with each other directly (no phone or radio required). there are several brands in the sub $40 (each) price range on amazon with good reviews.

I bought a Silent Rider muffler to add on the existing muffler. I haven’t had the chance to install it yet but they rave over how it makes them quieter. Got a couple of other issues to work on before I get it permanently installed. Best I can tell with it temporarily hanging there it takes some of the popping noise down a bit.

Hey Mac66,

Check out what I did to address that issue. Made a MAJOR difference. On most UTV's the noise is from the intake. No so much on the muffler.
I had the same issues you described.

Thanks for that.

Just got back from a 74 mile group ride. My wife and I had to wear shooting earmuffs to keep our ears from ringing. We tried the FRS headset radios but they didn't work very well.

So the plan is...

-Re-route the air intake

-put sound deadener on the inside of the engine cowling.

Picked up an essentially new 2022 UT400 with 9 miles on it.  Decided to change the oil because it's probably never been done.  Pulled the dipstick and noticed it was overfull then went and pulled the drain plug and took off the filter and it was like brown water running out.  What should I start checking?

I have a 2018 cub cadet challenger 750 I bought brand new almost 2 years ago the first month I had it the exhaust broke and burnt the spark plug wire in two that was a recall so the dealership installed the new one it had a different design and it bolted up to the bottom two plugs below the spark plug the dealership said they had to Adjust the exhaust valves I get the machine back thanking everything is good now wrong not even a week after I get it back the timing chain tensioner comes apart inside the motor I take it back to the dealership They put one on I get the machine back thanking everything is good but then just like before not even a week goes by when I was riding the Machine automatically quits going come to find out the wet clutch was burned up the primary clutch head stripped off of the splines I get that fixed and then  it overheats I take it back they bleed the air out of the coolant they bring it back to me the same day that I get it back it overheats again I take it back they temporarily fix it again just enough to let the warranty run out and now the machine has been to multiple different mechanics I have had them try to bleed the air out they have stood it up on its end I have had the water pump changed I have had the fan hooked to a switch so I could leave it on all the time but still almost 2 years later not even 200 hours on the machine and I cannot ride it The dealership will not take it back as a lemon I have tried I am at my wits end I have no clue what to try next
