at least 4 cracks, going to pull the swing arms and start welding them solid and put a plate across the bottom like Lenny did. I'll get one photo of each swing arm and them doctor the photo to show where each crack is, they are on both swing arms.

Any way, I suggest you all take a gander at your swing arm welds, I don't think I was that hard on my trooper and I know some of you are a lot harder on yours.

I have welded the cracks shut and put some extra metal where the cracks were and I have made a template for boxing in that last side and will get some 1/8" steel to weld to it on Monday. That should toughen it up some.

The plate for the bottom only needs to be 16 gauge but the reinforcement strips for the pivot points should be 1/8". Don't add the extra weight by going to 1/8" on the bottom. Do run the bottom plate all the way to the very end. Don't forget to add the pivot point grease fittings while they are off. The design of the stock swing arms is wrong and so is the improved design that Joyner did. All they did was to try and reinforce the bad design instead of correcting it. Being under torsion, it needs to be completely boxed to prevent it from twisting.

Eventually I will be looking into redesigning the swingarm completely, especially since my rt rear swingarm is 1" out of alignment anyway . I think it is poorly executed and can be much more simple and stronger--saving some weight. I like the prospect of the design they used on the RZR XP:

The lower shock mount wants to be mounted as close to the wheel (moved to the outside) as possible to limit the torque it imposes on the swingarm. That alone will make a major differance in the strength of the swingarm. Even though there are other problems with the swingarm, the ones out there that are cracking and twisting are from the twisting moment that the shock applies to the arm.

We had to take it off on the trail and take it to town and get it welded back up. It was fixed and worked fine, but I am planning to make it stronger so it doesn't happen again.

I have reinforced the pivot sleeves some time ago. Mine too failed after I strengthened the swingarms to better resist the twisting torque put on them. The torque strengthening moved all the stress to the next weak point which is the anchor sleeves. You will want to box your swing arm by adding a plate on the bottom and weld continous weld beads on all. Moving the lower shock mount out closer to the wheel is a big advancement towards elimiinating the twisting torque on the swingarm.

      This is all new to me, I have never been on a forum site before but thought this would be a good time to start. I have an opportunity to buy a 2011 cam am commander 800 xt.  It is yellow (which I don’t love;)) with 155 miles on it.  It came for the DRP factory in Texas where it was used to go from plant to plant. I can pick it up for $6900.  This would be used on a farm mostly.  Not looking to start a war on what machines are better, just wanting to know if this is worth it.

      Here's the place where everyone can describe their mod that really made a difference. Pics would be really helpful.
      I'm not referring to the 'must do' list of mods, but rather to stuff like suspension, electrical and so on that made your machine better.
      #1 on what I would like to see is suspension. Charlie installed some awesome shocks, but what have you done? Cost / supplier / how it helped would be awesome...

      I'm new here to this site with a Renli RL1100, I'm looking to make more power W/O going turbo or S/C. I read on here about a couple different fuel controllers and wanted to get your thoughts on them and if they are actually worth the money.
      (I have used the search function and have read numerous of posts but I figure it would be best for me to just ask a couple of questions to clear up any confusion.)
      1. Are the actually worth the money for a stock motor?
      2. What are the differences between the Silverbullet and EJK controller?
      3. After talking with Silverbullet they guarantee a 15whp gain on a stock motor, is this true?

      Saturday February 4th DFW Arctic Cat will be giving demo rides in our 2012 Wildcat. Rides will start at 10am and will take place every 2 hours so at 10am, 12pm, 2pm and at 4pm. If you wait until the 4pm slot you may not ride. Our Wildcat will be in our shop at 5pm NO if's and's or but's. Wear jeans and closed toed shoes. We will provide a helmet unless you just really want to bring your own. We're really looking forward to this event and hope to see a lot of you there.
