All I have been reading but not finding what is happening to me yet. I have been fighting the same problem for months now.

The t-4 will flat out go at times then it will loose power down to 500 rpms or so for 5-15 seconds then you hear it regain the rpms and off I go again.

I have completely cleaned the gas tank, repositioned the filter changed the filter numerous times. Added the a higher pressure Bosch pump.

I thought it was a dirty tank with debris getting in the way since when I took my foot off the gas it would recover in a few seconds 5-15.

I read the post about the IAC but most of them were about over revs. I thought maybe it was the computer protecting itself, if too high of revs.

I'm too the point just just throw this engine out and put a VW in it.

Rev limiting kicks in when you reach as specifit rpm and then turns off when the engine gets to an rpm maybe 100-200 rpms lower. It's mmore of a bap, bap, bap, on and off and not a 5-15 second delay. I would run a fuel pressure gauge directly from the fuel rail input and put it where you can see it when this happens. it the fuel pressure stays ok then it's not a fuel problem. Could be something might be heating up and loosing connection. Could be in the computer.

I HATE problems like this.

This sounds like a computer or fuel injection problem.

Check:

Does this happen only when hot?

Does it sound like its being bogged down from excessive fuel, or is it being starved?

What's the fuel pressure read when this is happening? You might want to relocate your fuel pressure guage. (I've thought of it myself, cus it would look so darn cool to have it where I can ACTUALLY SEE IT)

Check your plugs immediately after the event. What is their color? I'd check both oxygen sensors. Perhaps one is sending the wrong signal intermitantly...are the O.S. cables ok?

Check your comp. Jeese, after reading a thread on water entering the ECM, you never know.

I'll probably dream up a few more useless questions tonight.

Thanks to all so far. I hope to get time this weekend to dig in with the mechanic

I will relocate fuel gauge if possible, I believe it is dropping but unsure because it sounds starved of gas. New Bosch pump put in a few months ago, could be an intermittent bad pump.

It is has happened both hot and cold, but moe when hot.

I will keep this thread updated until the problem is fixed or I put in VW motor.

I will also IAC valve and the computer for moisture.

Will also see if someone has the equipment to read the fault codes.

If the fuel pressure drops, the fix is pretty simple. Hope the fuel pressure drops. Check all your plugs too.

One more question. Does it sound like a cyl or two is getting cut out, or is it some weird knocKing sound, or is it just like you throttled down? If it's a comp or CPS sensor issue, your plugs will likely tell you.

Crank position sensor. If your CPS is bad or CPS wires are shorting, you'll have the ECM confused.

FYI, I'm speaking from motorcycle experience. I've just gotten my Joyner, so I have next to nothing on it. However, it does have electronic ignition, so it may suffer many or most of the same issues I've faced before.

If you need a CPS, you'll have to get one from Casey or Silverbullet. I managed to find one the would fit up, not easy to do, but the computer wouldn't read it. Had to get one from Silverbullet for it to work. It's not the IAC. I have my fuel gauge comming up in between the seats behind the parking brake handle. If something is acting funny, I can quickly glance at it and see if it's the fuel system or eliminate it as the problem. I find it really nice to be able to monitor it at will.

Not sure if you came across this topic http://www.utvboard.com/topic/1423-power-loss/page__hl__%2Bloss+%2Bof+%2Bpower__fromsearch__1 but it sounds like the problems you are having is very close to the same as what i was having. I checked everthing and like you pulled the tank a couple times as well as new fuel filter, air filter fuel lines regulator, checked all wire connections and finally replaced the computer and have not had the issue since.Too bad your not close to someone with a trooper to switch them out just to see if that is it.

I've recently was given a Trooper ECM to sell. Was getting ready to put it on Ebay. Asking $350.00. This came out of a running Trooper and to reconfirm it being good I tested it on Kinarfis Trooper when we were at Coral Pink Sand Dunes. The computer is good. I don't like to ship stuff back and forth like computers so if it doesn't solve your problem it will be up to you to resale it to get your money back out of it. Let me know if your interested and I won't put it on Ebay.

You're about 3 hours too late. Already opened, cleaned, and resealed. Fortunately, I found no sings of water penetration, and everything was properly tidy

Lenny I will take it. Dumb question same computer for the T-4. I understand once I buy it's mine if I don't need it. I'll probably hold on to it or put it on eBay.

Lenny got the computer. Just back from 3 days at the Baja 500. Will try to get the computer changed soon but weather is getting hot already to spend too much time testing.

      Got a 2021 Axis 500.
I'm needing the head bolt torque specs.
      Manual states 38nm.
But saw a video Hisun put out on YT for a 550 stating 50nm + 45° turn of wrench. Didn't think they would be that much difference on a 500 and a 550.
Seen another YT video on a 2013 500. He did 38nm.
Really only want to do this job once and done. And done correct.
      Anybody got the answer?
Going to start this rebuild in a few once this weather brakes. Flooding and then snow and cold here now. But spring is around the corner and the wife has to have this fixed or a Honda pioneer may be parked in driveway soon. She has to be able to ride.

I have an Axis 500 4x4 UTV that I was given.  It looks like an almost new machine with 39 hrs on it however it was apparently under water from the hurricane . I have no spark at the plug. I have replaced the plug, the plug wire, & the stator so far. Can anyone advise me of what i need to check and or replace to get this thing running? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
                                    Thank You,
                                  D Maynard

I'm working with a 2015 MSU-500.  Basic symptoms are it cranks well, but will not fire.  It has spark, and it has fuel spraying out of the injector (and spraying starting fluid into the throttle body and plug hole makes no difference).  It has compression.  I bought it not running, and no other information was available.  It has 775 miles on it and 127 hours.  It looks to be in very good shape.   Previous owner replaced fuel pump, ECU, coil, plug, and the fuse/relay box that mounts on the firewall, then gave up.
My questions relate to cam/valve timing, considering the symptoms and diagnostics so far.  My thinking was the woodruff key sheared off and the crank spun, making it out of time.  My question is, by the pictures attached does anyone have an opinion as to the cam/valve timing being correct?  In the crankshaft picture you can see a timing mark visible.  In the camshaft picture I have arrows directed towards what I think are timing marks (which appear to be exactly 180 degrees from one another).  However, the long arrow in what appears to be bolt configuration in line with the piston/rod line.  Here is a puzzling note... in the position you see in the pictures... I have valve lash on both the intake and exhaust.  I think it's at TDC, given the visible crank timing mark and valve lash on both valves.
Any thoughts ?  Does this appear to be in proper valve time ?  Have I missed anything simple ?  Thanks in advance for your input.

I bought a used 2021 Axis 500 last April.  Low mileage and got it for considerably less than what they go for new.
The first thing I did was change the oil/fluids and also put a new drive belt on it.  The only other thing I did to it was add a rear vinyl window that zips open and rolls up to keep the weather off.
I used it on my 52 acre property to check trail cameras, service the food plots, haul fertilizer, seed etc etc. It's has a good size bed and is not too big or small.  It has worked well as a utility vehicle.
Other than using on the trails working around the property I haven't used it much off road...at least until last weekend when I went on 74 mile group ride around the county. In my state it's legal to ride on any road that's not a state or federal highway. The group started in town, rode about 30 miles on back roads to the state ORV trail system. Then did about 20 miles on the trails and then headed back via back roads to town.
It had rained for 2 days straight prior, so the trails were one mud hole after another.  It was very challenging.
      The good...
-It worked fine, never had any kind of issue with it since I bought it.
-It kept up with more expensive machines on the trails. I was the only one with a CCC (Cheap Chinese Crap) machine.
      -Fairly comfortable to drive.
-The roof, windshield and rear window kept most of the rain off when it started raining in the afternoon.
-Okay, I cheated. I peeled off the AXIS 500 stickers on each side. Everybody in the group assumed I had a Rhino. They didn't ask, I didn't tell.
      The not so good...
-The horsepower rating on the 500-cc engine is 24 hp but it seemed underpowered. While I could go about 35 mph with the pedal to the metal on pavement and hard packed dirt roads the best I could do on loose packed roads was 27 mph. I had trouble keeping up with the others in the group.  It also bogs down on inclines in high gear.  On the other hand, in low gear and 4wd I didn't have any problems going through mud or sand or up hills.
-It is LOUD! Had to wear shooting earmuffs to keep my ears from ringing while riding. Going to have to address that.
      Overall Impression...
I was impressed with it on the trails, and it is a good utility vehicle for working around the property. Considering what I paid for it I am very happy with its performance.
