a protractor, a professional eye, that's enough

It depends on the engine power, torque and various other engine parameters

home desgning an engine is a colossal waste of time, unless you're just interested in doing that for the sake of engineering. It wont make much power or be reliable without a lot of machine work and experientation. Trying to slap together a crankshaft out of scrap material without a lot of machine lathe exerience is going to be an excercise in futility. Crankshafts are extremely sensitive to balance, and straightness.

You can buy a Honda BX200 clone in the US for $100, and a centrifugal clutch that fits it for $30. that's what is commonly used in homemade gokarts. Building something bigger and more like a UTV is definitely do able with off the shelf components and a homemade frame/body. Heck a 6hp BX200 UTV is probably do-able (with a better clutch) it just wont have a very high top speed. Lots of early low CC UTV's were <20HP and stiill manage to do 30+ MPH.

We are talking about a large engine here because it is over 600 cm3 and it could be even 1400 cm3 I don't know I didn't measure it but I doubt it would be an engine larger than 1000 cm3 in the case of the 1.0 engine I am counting on about 25 horsepower And if it is 1400 Well then I am counting on 35 but that's how I build the engine myself because I love DIY Besides I have quite limited resources and in general I gave myself such a challenge to build it from scrap and the crankshaft will be made by stabbing and welding it will be such a connection We'll see if it works

I am interested in how your DIY UTV is going. Any update? I have played around with building go karts but we always buy the engines off the shelf. Wondering how this endeavor worked out.

      Greetings All,
I'm looking for the most effective way to quiet the noise inside the cab. The cab virtually sits atop the 24hp diesel engine. It's very loud and so I'm looking for ways to make inside the cab quieter.

Is there a code reader available for the Coleman UTV 400?  I tried using the HUD ECU Hacker software and cables/adapters but no luck OBD to delphi 6 pin and KKL VAG as well as ELM327.  Will not connect.  I was able to get it to connect randomly a couple of times, but haven't been able to since.  I was able to clear and read the codes briefly.  I'm aware of the Tiny Scan 301 but it doesn't seem to be readily available.  There's a few out there but they are expensive.

I want to ditch my Kubota RTV-XG850 and its moronic twitchy throttle design flaw, get rid of the problematic engine and the 40 mph purposely throttled speed.
So far, I'm looking at the Honda Pioneer 1000 and the Polaris Ranger 1000, both of which have 1000-1500 lb payload bed capacity.
What other makes and models should I be looking at?

      Thanks for the help!

Could someone please recommend a reputable shop to troubleshoot and repair a Coleman UT 400 in the DFW TX area?
