I have to say i have changed 100 of c/v axles.My C/V  manufacture said not to tighten more than 60 to 70 pounds of torque.When we are tighten the nut we are putting a lot of stress on the outer joint.The cotter pin holds the nut in place use stainless steel cotter pin.It is pulling the joint apart and when you hit some thing it brakes.Now if you are running around with a torn boot than that is another reason.
