What would cause blue smoke upon startup and first little bit AFTER it has sat for a few hours AFTER being ran and warmed up.  It doesn't smoke at all on the initial start up from cold.  I drive it approximately a mile first thing of a morning and it sits for 3-4 hours, and when I start it up after that is the point at which it smokes.  It is a 2012 Bennche Bighorn 500.

I would say it's burning oil since it's blue smoke. But how you described it, after the 2nd start up it only blows the smoke, that's what confuses me.

It's not Diesel is it? If it is diesel, blue smoke means your injectors are bad/going out.

No it's gas.  My thoughts are that the oil needs to be warm to seep past the valve seals.  The only confusing part about that is the fact that it is warm when I park it for the night, therefore it should smoke on start up in the mornings, but doesn't.  And now that I think about it, the smoke on the 2nd start up actually doesn't start, or at least isn't noticeable, for a few seconds.  Then, it will smoke for 2-3 minutes and it's gone.

Yeah, that is confusing., but it seeping past the seals, sounds likely.

So what would be a ballpark estimate on getting those replaced.  I know I can get the parts for $9.  What would I be looking at labor wise?  I know it will vary by region, but i just need an idea.

I wouldn't jump to a conclusion about the valve seals being the problem. Obviously they are a prime suspect, but if you're going to let a mechanic fix it...then let a qualified mechanic diagnose it also. When you tell a mechanic that you need new seals, then that's what you'll get. Even if that's not the problem. What if it's a cracked ring? Or a head gasket?

Have you pulled the plugs, and checked each one?

This sounds Similar to another thread on here, yet the other was a Kawi. But the smoke patterns seem the same. anyway, the problem was fuel getting into the crankcase.. MORE THAN LIKELY THIS IS NOT YOUR PROBLEM.

That's a good point, but if you take it to any mechanic around here to diagnose, 2 seals will turn into a complete engine rebuild, new rearend, fuel pump, and tires.

A head gasket or fuel in the crankcase would produce a different color smoke rather than blue right?

Yes, I can understand how some mechanics can inflate a problem. But I'm just pointing out that the proper diagnosis is everything. Just replacing suspect parts will only lead to frustration. I've been there before.

You can certainly follow a gut feeling, and replace what you think the problem is. Leaking valve guides seems reasonable, considering the symptoms. You might get lucky. In answer to the time it takes to change out the valve seals. It should be about three hours or so. That's assuming he's pulling the head, to change them. Some people have used air pressure to hold the valve in place while changing out those seals. I've also heard of stuffing rope down in through the spark plug hole to accomplish this. It's a less invasive approach, and saves money on parts

I have a similar situation with a Massimo 500 that I recently bought used... Didn't realize it smoked (blue) when I purchased and now notice it does so primarily under load. In low gear or running hard.... Other than that, cranks easy and runs good. Checking compression today... Any ideas?

Thanks

If it's blue smoke all the time (sitting at idle & while driving), it's most likely the oil control rings.  A compression test won't expose that problem.  But if the oil control rings are bad, it's likely that the compression rings are also bad (might show low compression).  If only under heavy acceleration, it's the valve stem seals.  The vacuum created under heavy acceleration can cause oil to be drawn past worn valve stem seals.  This info is from many websites on automobile engines.  ATV/UTV engines aren't much different.

2021 Hisun Axis 500 UTV (From Lowes)
      Will NOT START
MY apologies if this is to much info just wanted to give yal the most information possible for help.
I'm a so called diyer. An Electrician by trade 21yrs. I got my S×S from my last job. The contractor purchased this S×S for this specific job brand new, from Lowes. They used it for hauling materials, tools, & a little bit of anything you can think of on an Industrial type job site.
I remember getting on the SxS one time & pushed the gas petal all the way to the floor & SxS had very little power.
So anyway ,when the job finished up back mid July this year (7/2024) , I asked the contractor what they was going to do with it. I was told to take it. Otherwise it would go to the contractors yard (storage yard) & most likely rust away.
Took it home washed it , it had a heavy coat of dust on it & in it dust was every where. My helper & I had to push it on the trailer to get it home.  After washing it throughly I let it sit & dry out for a good day and half, maybe 2 days. Before trying to start it. NO START. Will turn over & try to start but thats it.
So here's what I've purchased & installed. New Air Filter, new spark plug, new air idle control valve (AICV), new throttle position sensor, new throttle body, new oxygen sensor, new digital dash speedometer/fuel gauge/clock.
Also drained the old oil & gas & replaced with new oil & 93oct. gas. I should probably mention that I've changed the AICV twice. The 1st time I changed the AICV I was able to get the SxS started & let idle for at least 10-15min. Drove out of the garage, with very little power,  turned it around & barely got it back in the garage. That was the one & only time I've been able to start the SxS. I've also cleaned the Throttle Body and & intake with TB cleaner.  So after that the AICV was  making weird noise so I pulled it out & tried cleaning it, pretty sure I messed it up. So I purchased a Throttle Body that came with new AICV & TPS. Still NO START.  I've checked the fuel pump & the fuel injector.  I took the injector off still hooked up to wiring & turned the key over, the injector sprayed a lot of gas out kinda the size of a volleyball. I've also checked the clearance gap on the intake & exhaust valve. But today 11/2/2024 I'm going recheck spark plug gap & the valve gaps. And alot of other checking. Would the driver side seat belt have anything to do with it not starting?? I know the driver side seat belt has to be in gauged for full throttle "going fast". Thing is the drv. side seat belt will latch but feels like might be messed up inside of it. Tired opening it up but to no avail.  I've never had a S×S or 4wheeler so I was really excited when I got the S×S,not so much anymore.  I work on & fix my own vehicles usually no problems.  But this SxS is kicking my ass.
So if possible & someone could help me with some ideas or tell me what Im doing wrong or did wrong, I would greatly appreciate it.  Thank you for reading thus far.

the regen braking on my e1 has stopped working unless (for eg) I am going down a hill in low and it's slowing things down to stick to the 10kph limit. when I drive and take my foot off the accelerator it's not initiating the regen to slow things down and instead just coasts at whatever speed it is at, or speeds up as the regen is not limiting it. the brake lights work, so it's probably not a fault with the sensor on the brake pedal

hoping someone else might be able to provide some suggestions on things to check, as the mob that I bought it off seem to have gone silent on me

We recently purchased the Axis x550. Fueled it with 93 fuel and drove one time around the farm and the 02 fault error appeared. Any ideas?

I’m getting a 700-7 every startup. I’m having to change the plug every 100 miles on 93 octane gas. I got a lower numbered plug that is supposed to burn hotter. I’m wondering why that comes up every time I start it and if it’s related? I included a picture of the code or whatever it is. I haven’t seen the code in the owners manual or the hisun shop manual I have.
