Hello All...

Just bought a 2014 Massimo 500 UTV.  It;s not running at the moment, but hopefully will soon.  I need a seat for it also (passenger side, if it makes any difference.)  It is a crank-but no start situation.  Just now starting to read the boards for solutions.  Apparently these models are well known for this issue.  If anyone has any suggestions, please feel free to chime in, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome to the site.

Consider testing and diagnosis before throwing parts at it.  Doing that only compounds  the problem and often masks what is actually wrong with it.  Rember the basics of ICEs.  Spark, Compression and Fuel.

Test for spark and compression. Then try firing it up with a dribble of gas into the cylinder to see if it will run for a second or two.   If it does, you've narrowed the problem down to fuel delivery.

I've read that some of these earlier models particularly  Hisuns were shipped without in line fuel filters.   Their fuel injectors are sensitive to poor or dirty fuel so they quit or won't let it run much at if at all.

Good luck Doctor, hope you diagnose the disease and that whatever it is,  its an easy and cheap cure.

Thanks.  Someone has already hung several new parts on it, to no avail.  That's how I got it.  I can't get it to the shop for another couple of days due to the snow storm, but hopefully by the end of the week.

Welcome, to the board. In in Eastern, KY also. Not any local authorized repair shop around here that I can find. Haven't tried any other place.

Since it been down for a while. Charge the battery. Then check for spark. Check for any loose wires and connections.

I changed the oem seats in my Axis 500, replaced with seats from a RZR from ebay. I made the seat base and they fit pretty good. I gave 1 of the seats to a guy up the road for spreading some dirt in the driveway. Gave one to my brother to replace a seat on his mower.

Good luck, let us know how it goes.

Thanks.  I need a passenger side seat also.  Been watching Marketplace but nothing yet.  I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and buy a new one.  Won't do that until I get it running.

Hello All...  (2015 MSU 500)

Well, I finally got a chance to start the diagnostic on the machine.  I have found: 1) has spark, 2) has fuel, fuel pump working (and injector is spraying), 3) has compression.  Cranks (at a good speed), but will not start.  Sounds like it wants to start, fires every once in a while, and the use of starting fluid makes no change.

Not sure if the valve timing is correct.  Does anyone know (or know of a good place to find) how the timing marks should be aligned for TDC ?  There are 2-dimples on the camshaft (opposite of one another), and currently they appear to be in line pointing to the crank at I think what is TDC (i.e. in line with the piston, rod, and crank).  I can't find an inspection window to see any crank timing marks.

Also, I have what I believe to be some fault indicators displaying on the dash info display.  They are as follows:  201, blinks 4 times, 202, blinks 4 times, 352, blinks 5 times, 336, blinks 5 times, and 37, blinks 5 times.  Anyone know where I can find what they may be indicating ?  The ECM looks brand new, and the fuse/relay box was replaced by me (previous owner destroyed it trying to get it open).

The unit has only 775 miles on it, and 127 hours.  It's in good shape, with what I believe all original tires and equipment (although it's missing a passenger seat).

 Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks...

Larry

Best thing is to reset the ECU.

With the key in off position. Turn key on then off 5 times within 30 seconds. Make sure the fuel pump kicks on each time. After the 5th on/off cycle. Leave off 1 minute then try to start the machine. That should clear the error codes and reset the ECU .

Proper procedure to start is turn key to on. Then once the fuel pump shuts off. The proceed to the turn the key to the start position to engage starter.

On this site there is a download section section where shop manuals can be searched for.

If the ECU looks new it may have been replaced. It's also possible that it was a bad replacement. I read somewhere or watched a video stating that bad ECU for these machines were being sold on fleebay. Hope that is not the case.

All those codes deal with spark in one way or another.

To search for manuals click on the 3 bars in top right corner. That will take you to a webpage to search for a repair manual. You'll probably have to remove the fuel tank and the air blower to get access to the tdc inspection port. Directions are in the manual

Good luck

Anyone know anything about the Massimo Warrior 1000 MXD Crew UTV? I like the look but don't know anyone that owns one. All feedback is appreciated.

I'm working with a 2015 MSU-500.  Basic symptoms are it cranks well, but will not fire.  It has spark, and it has fuel spraying out of the injector (and spraying starting fluid into the throttle body and plug hole makes no difference).  It has compression.  I bought it not running, and no other information was available.  It has 775 miles on it and 127 hours.  It looks to be in very good shape.   Previous owner replaced fuel pump, ECU, coil, plug, and the fuse/relay box that mounts on the firewall, then gave up.
My questions relate to cam/valve timing, considering the symptoms and diagnostics so far.  My thinking was the woodruff key sheared off and the crank spun, making it out of time.  My question is, by the pictures attached does anyone have an opinion as to the cam/valve timing being correct?  In the crankshaft picture you can see a timing mark visible.  In the camshaft picture I have arrows directed towards what I think are timing marks (which appear to be exactly 180 degrees from one another).  However, the long arrow in what appears to be bolt configuration in line with the piston/rod line.  Here is a puzzling note... in the position you see in the pictures... I have valve lash on both the intake and exhaust.  I think it's at TDC, given the visible crank timing mark and valve lash on both valves.
Any thoughts ?  Does this appear to be in proper valve time ?  Have I missed anything simple ?  Thanks in advance for your input.

starts up you have keep rpms up for 5 minutes till it warms up then runs fine. But if it stalls wont start unless you unplug fuel pump and hold it to the floor till it starts then plug pump back in and run it till it warms up then it is fine all day.

Unfortunately my rear Diff housing cracked on my 2013 and I need to replace it or find a good used complete differential.  I think the same one was used from 2013-2016?  Any help or referrals appreciated.  Thanks, Gary  (949)370-2575 (in UT)

I bought a used 2021 Axis 500 last April.  Low mileage and got it for considerably less than what they go for new.
The first thing I did was change the oil/fluids and also put a new drive belt on it.  The only other thing I did to it was add a rear vinyl window that zips open and rolls up to keep the weather off.
I used it on my 52 acre property to check trail cameras, service the food plots, haul fertilizer, seed etc etc. It's has a good size bed and is not too big or small.  It has worked well as a utility vehicle.
Other than using on the trails working around the property I haven't used it much off road...at least until last weekend when I went on 74 mile group ride around the county. In my state it's legal to ride on any road that's not a state or federal highway. The group started in town, rode about 30 miles on back roads to the state ORV trail system. Then did about 20 miles on the trails and then headed back via back roads to town.
It had rained for 2 days straight prior, so the trails were one mud hole after another.  It was very challenging.
      The good...
-It worked fine, never had any kind of issue with it since I bought it.
-It kept up with more expensive machines on the trails. I was the only one with a CCC (Cheap Chinese Crap) machine.
      -Fairly comfortable to drive.
-The roof, windshield and rear window kept most of the rain off when it started raining in the afternoon.
-Okay, I cheated. I peeled off the AXIS 500 stickers on each side. Everybody in the group assumed I had a Rhino. They didn't ask, I didn't tell.
      The not so good...
-The horsepower rating on the 500-cc engine is 24 hp but it seemed underpowered. While I could go about 35 mph with the pedal to the metal on pavement and hard packed dirt roads the best I could do on loose packed roads was 27 mph. I had trouble keeping up with the others in the group.  It also bogs down on inclines in high gear.  On the other hand, in low gear and 4wd I didn't have any problems going through mud or sand or up hills.
-It is LOUD! Had to wear shooting earmuffs to keep my ears from ringing while riding. Going to have to address that.
      Overall Impression...
I was impressed with it on the trails, and it is a good utility vehicle for working around the property. Considering what I paid for it I am very happy with its performance.
