Just picked up a Hisun 500 that had shift issues (corroded fan gear) which I fixed. It also didn't seem to be running smoothly then all of a sudden it got worse. It seems to miss on both idle and when pushing the gas pedal to the floor and doesn't seem to be running at full power. I've been working with a local person who is walking me through some steps, but I'd like some input from this group as well. What I've done:

- drained the fuel tank and replaced it with 93 octane fuel and added heet to help with any water problems.

- replaced the fuel injector.

- disconnected the battery (several times) to allow the module to reset.

- set the valve clearance, both intake and exhaust, within specs ... intake was tight but exhaust seemed fine.

- replaced the battery.

- replaced the O2 sensor.

Nothing has helped. Not sure what the next steps are, but would appreciate any expertise that can be offered here.

Only thing I can think of that you haven't already done is look at the fuel pump. There is a filter on it but you have to pull the pump to look at it. If that is the problem consider installing an inline filter before the pump.

Thanks for this. I pulled the pump but cannot find a filter or screen. I didn't want to disassemble it without knowing more. I'll look at installing an inline filter ... good idea.

Just a thought here...how is compression?  Too tight exhaust can burn a seat and leave you with poor compression.

Thanks. I tested compression which is over 100. Since my most recent post I've also looked at the fuel system and wondering if there's something that is affecting fuel flow. I pulled the lines and blew them out but could not find a filter.

Also, I wonder if I made a mistake when adjusting the valves. Intake was tight but exhaust was still good. After doing it, though, I fear I didn't have it at TDC. I couldn't find the marks so spun it around to just after the exhaust opened and closed but before intake opened and closed. TDC is on the compression stroke if I remember correctly (I'm not a mechanic, just a guy who isn't afraid to get his hands dirty) which would be between intake opening but before exhaust, right?

Mine had a small plastic sock kinda thing on the end of a tube. It was all clogged and broken down. Maybe some are different.

I have been doing a little research on which engine oil is best for UTV engines.  There seems to be some disagreement over using a good quality regular engine oil, and the necessity of using "M2" (or wet clutch suitable) oil.  My understanding is the "wet clutch" suitable oil has less friction reduction properties (hence a more responsive clutch with less slippage).  While less friction reduction properties would seem to be better for the wet clutch... it would not be best for the internal engine parts like camshaft bearings and other moving parts where friction is detrimental and would lead to premature failure.  Some folks swear you need M2 oil, while others say they have been using regular motor oil for years and their clutch is just fine.  Could they both be right ???
      Any thoughts ?

I have a 2014 odes 800 dom. I  have a wire in the same harness as the fuel pump plug ( just before it ) and it is not connected to anything t has a connector and a little brass connector on the end , I was wondering if anyone could tell me where it goes to

I'm working with a 2015 MSU-500.  Basic symptoms are it cranks well, but will not fire.  It has spark, and it has fuel spraying out of the injector (and spraying starting fluid into the throttle body and plug hole makes no difference).  It has compression.  I bought it not running, and no other information was available.  It has 775 miles on it and 127 hours.  It looks to be in very good shape.   Previous owner replaced fuel pump, ECU, coil, plug, and the fuse/relay box that mounts on the firewall, then gave up.
My questions relate to cam/valve timing, considering the symptoms and diagnostics so far.  My thinking was the woodruff key sheared off and the crank spun, making it out of time.  My question is, by the pictures attached does anyone have an opinion as to the cam/valve timing being correct?  In the crankshaft picture you can see a timing mark visible.  In the camshaft picture I have arrows directed towards what I think are timing marks (which appear to be exactly 180 degrees from one another).  However, the long arrow in what appears to be bolt configuration in line with the piston/rod line.  Here is a puzzling note... in the position you see in the pictures... I have valve lash on both the intake and exhaust.  I think it's at TDC, given the visible crank timing mark and valve lash on both valves.
Any thoughts ?  Does this appear to be in proper valve time ?  Have I missed anything simple ?  Thanks in advance for your input.

I have  a bulldog i bought from home depot in 2013.  In the last season it started refusing to shift from neutral to either forward or reverse.  I changed the trans axle fluid and made sure the cables were lubricated and free.  With a lot of coaxing, I can sometimes get it to shift.  once I start driving it, things improve until I let it set awhile.   Any suggestion on where to go from here?
