2018 Sector 250 hard to start, won't idle but runs great

Hi guys,

I have a Rural King version of the Hisun Sector 250 with about 75 miles and 15 hours on it.  It just started being difficult to start and idle.  But if I hold in on the gas a little it will start and run until I left off.  It also runs good and will run good until I stop then it idles for a few seconds then quits.  Its about 4 months out of warranty.  Battery voltage is fine before, during, and after starting.  Oil is clean and clear.  Gas is fresh.   I can hear the fuel pump spool up when I turn the key to actually start it, not when I turn it to the on position though like on most other UTV's I have owned.  Its really odd and has me perplexed.  The only other thing that I have noticed is that the engine temp indicator on the left side of the dash only indicates one bar regardless of how warm the engine is.  Other than that, it runs great.  Just hard to start and won't idle.  Any suggestions?  It has me  perplexed.

Thanks

Carbuereated or fuel injected?

Fuel injected.  I checked a few more things today.  After cranking it for about 7 seconds and not "starting it by pressing on the gas" I checked the spark plug and it was wet.  It was also a little black for a plug to have that few hours.  So its getting fuel, maybe too much but once I put it in gear and take off it runs like its normal.  Anything 500 rpms or higher than idle speed it runs great.  Could a slightly weak battery starve just enough voltage at startup to not make the plug fire good?  Then when the rpm's are up the stator takes over?  Just guessing.....

Thanks

Sounds like too much fuel to me. But spark is easily tested with a spark tester. There's some testers that are even adjustable to test how far the spark will jump.

The EFI computer sets the fuel mixture based on the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor.  Since your spark plug indicates a rich mixture and your engine temp reads cold, the ECT may be bad. I have seen this happen on EFI cars.  I don't think the ECT is very expensive or hard to change. Might be worth a try.

I think that Dave's on the right track here.  I'd definitely test that particular sensor. And also verify the actual temperature. The thermostat is activated by heat. So if its working, the motor should be heating up.

Thanks for your replies guys.  I might have fixed it.  I changed the idle air control valve.  That seems to have fixed it although I have only gotten to test it briefly as the temp here is cold.  I had forgotten that these fuel injected ones have an idle air control valve.  The old one seemed to be stuck as to not feed any air while trying to start the engine.

Thanks again and will update thread if appears to not be fixed upon further testing.

It is in park, but when I put the brake on to start, it registers N.

hi everyone i have this 2021 Hisun forge 250 that won't start. no spark no fuel.   when i turn the key on i dont hear the relays click or fuel pump come on. it does have power but the relay doesnt ground the pump or the ignition coil. dont know if there are any safety switches on this model or not.  it does crank and all the accessories work. i  hot wired the pump and it does work.  i found a wiring diagram but it's very hard to figure out and was hoping someone has seen this before. all fuses are good. thanks in advance.

I have had my E1 since late last summer and I have always noticed that the parking brake was weak or non existent. About a month or so after I purchased it I mentioned to the dealer that the parking brake did not function well. What I was expecting from the dealer, ' well bring it in and we will correct the issue.' What I got was the typical dealer response, "it may just need to be adjusted." No shit!  Well I finally decided to adjust it. A very simple process need only two 10mm wrenches.  Open the bed, remove the pin holding the bed  to the strut and move the bad out of the way. Right in front of the electric motor is a brake disk.  That is the parking brake. It has a small set of brake pads that are actuated by a lever attached to parking brake cable.  There are two 10 mm nuts on the shaft to moves the pads. Release the inner nut and hold it in place while screwing in the outer nut - that is really a bolt. After screwing it in about one turn, tighten the other nut.  Check the parking brake. If it is holding when activated, then you are good, but if not, then you may have to turn the bolt another turn. Do not turn to far or you will lock it up.

Hello, I have a 2013 500 utv hisun. Was running ok and cut out while parked. Bike will not start now. It turns over, but won't fire. I have no spark and no fuel. I replaced fuel pump, ignition coil, spark plug, cdi, voltage rectifier and all the fuses and relays. Could bad stater cause no fuel because I can't hear the fuel pump priming. Any info on where to start looking for problem.

I recently purchased a 2024 Hisun 550 Sector from Kreps Service Station and am having issues with the gear selector, I am doing as instructed in the owners manual but the shifter acts like it is binding or the button lock isn't releasing, the shifter will not move, I have to wiggle it back and forth while pushing hard on the brake and if it's in park or reverse it's nearly impossible to get it to move, I contacted Justin Krep and he says this is normal with these machines, I find that hard to believe, I've owned many utvs and side x sides and have never had this kind of issue with any of them, any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated.
