Trooper air filter bad experiance

Recommended Posts

I just wanted to post a bad luck story I heard from the father of a Trooper owner today. I don't know if something happened that I didn't hear about but it seamed worthy enough to at least warrant a check. His engine quit running and after the dealer tryed about everything they took a compression check. Spec calls for he said 120#, they got 90 on one cylinder and 60 on the rest. Upon teardown there was very very fine sand in the engine that they claimed actually went right through the air filter. The cylinders were scorred and obviously the piston rings to. He had 200 miles on the unit but was out of warrenty. He is giong to switch to a K&N filter.

Right or not, I'm checking my filter by removing it and see what I can see on it and in the manifold. You may want to do the same.

I just took my air filter off to check it. Looking closely, there is a very fine brownish powder visible in the inside of the filter. Mostly the side that was at the bottom and really not visible on the topside. The intake tube also has a light film if it on its inside walls. I didn't see it until I used a flashlightk, then it was obvious. My Trooper still runs strong but I'm not going an inch farther until I get a new filter and It won't be from Joyner.

I sujest that every Trooper owner take a close look at this.

I checked mine the first time i cleaned it, no dust. I guess i will be looking before i use the trooper again. I have the carbonfiber top with the filter on top and sides with a precleaner over it. I use k&n filter oil. Thanks, i will be checking it .

George is adding a snorkle to ours as soon as he has time. We were very careful this summer and checked the airfilter before every ride and I still think George had to clean it every week-end. FYI we use K&N's on our Polaris Sportsman 700's year before last we were in Castro Canyon, Utah and the dust (it was very dusty) got past the clean filters and the socks that were on them according to the Polaris dealer here they don't recommend the K&N's for that very reason. We were lucky and the damage was very little.

Sorry to hear about your friend, is Joyner going to do anything? Didn't Polaris due recall recently on the RZR when they were sucking dirt. Jimmy?

I like that idea. Keeping the intake high has got to make a difference. I don't know the other person well enough to know what joyner is doing. I'll ask my deaker but I don't even know if the guy lives around here.

Thanks for the input.

Silverbullet. Hi Lenny

The K&N air filter w/charger is very good. The best part is you can take the charger of and just shake the major crap off.But the Uni Filter is the best.Just more mantiance. An it's not toexpensive

Your right, just got back from an elk hunt and dusted my engine badly but it seems to be running ok now that things are cleaned up. First indication was it quit wanting to run at idle. If I would have stayed home one more day I could have read the reply from the list of issues I have had. I changed plugs and oil and cleaned the intake system. I had a K&N filter with me but pulled it off because it got plugged up and I didnt have the oil with me. thought the stock cleaner was good enough for a backup. Thanks, Thin Air Powersports, for the help and parts.

I just purchased a used 2023 Massimo warrior UTV SxS 1000mx with 600 miles on it. I didn't even get a full day of riding and the driver's side rear axle broke. I'm pretty sure it was already going bad because we would hear a noise once in a while. I'm wondering if anyone else has had problems with theirs. Also looking for places to buy accessories.

We recently purchased the Axis x550. Fueled it with 93 fuel and drove one time around the farm and the 02 fault error appeared. Any ideas?

Just received delivery of a 2024 AMP Pro.  Thought I'd start a thread with my impressions as I use it and learn more.  There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of real-world usage information out there on this model.  Hope this will help others as they research.
      Intended Use Cases
Fire mitigation / slash removal from a 5 acre forested and well-gamble-oaked property.  The previous owners thought as much about fire mitigation as I do about fashion: not much. Snow removal Stump pulling General hauling (rock, lumber, etc.) Weimaraner energy depletion.  Wasn't an original use case, but a nice added bonus.  Experiences So Far
Wasn't impressed that two of the bumpers on the underside of the bed where it sits upon the frame were missing.  The metal on metal contact has damaged the powder coating and the frame.  I expect a little better QC.
I've only put a few hours on it, so not a ton to report on usage.  It isn't quiet; it's silent.  I can't even detect an electric note from the motor. I removed (and subsequently replaced) the motor cover noticed that the motor is German and made by Schambuller.  The motor controller is Italian and made by Dana TM4.  Given the operating specs of both I found on the web, I suspect both are higher quality than the previous Navitas (which is supposed to be decent).  The motor is rated at 25 hp and 71.5 lb-ft of torque.  It feels very powerful.  All the torque is delivered instantly, if desired.
The bed is huge and has an electric dump as standard.  Great feature but would like it to go up a bit more.  Probably not feasible from an engineering perspective, but I want and I need ;).
Power steering is nice, but vague.  Probably common to many UTVs, but I am accustomed to more direct results from input.  Plan early and plan often.
In our first full day of usage, we hauled about 1/2 as much slash as the entire rest of the year when I was doing it by hand cart.  I may get fatter, but I'll also get more done.  After a few days of usage, the battery meter has gone down by 1/10th.
      Until next time...

I have a 2017 Intimidator XD4 800cc 4x4.  It will run great and then it's like it goes into safe mode and only runs on 1 cylinder.  It's not fouling out the plug when it happens.  Some times when I stop and restart it, it works fine.  First I thought it was a spark issue, then a fuel issue, but I feel like it's a short in the wiring some place.

I swapped out the Subaru motor for a Predator 670cc. If I remove the heat shield around the muffler, The stock muffler sits in there just fine with 1" to spare.
Only problem is the exhaust exit is toward the back seat instead of out the back.
Do you all think that the stock exhaust would be okay (just as effective) if cut a hole and welded a pipe on the reversed (opposite) end? Of course, plug the old exit end. Other option I thought of was to roll a tube 180° with a 7" center line radius and finish extention of 12" or so.
      Any thoughts?
