Hi all.

Some time ago I've purchased a 2006 Cub Cadet Volunteer 4x4 through an auction. I have just found this forum and hope you can help me or give me some ideas.

The problem here is that it was a non-runner with an "engine issue". There was some small wiring issue which I already fixed and started the engine (CAT/Perkins). To my surprise it didn't move after I put it in gear. After doing a small investigation I realised somebody took out whole CVT transmission and it lacks few gears and shafts in the transfer case. I called the dealer for a quote and the total cost of repairing it by myself on new parts makes it financially pointless.

Hence the question: do you think it's possible to swap the CVT and transfer case from some other UTV/vehicle? Or should I just scrap it/sell it for parts? I've been looking for an used transfer case but didn't find anything in US nor in EU.

I don't know who is the original manufacturer, but I believe that Cub Cadet UTV'S are actually a rebadged unit, usually a Chinese company. Someone here with much more knowledge than me will hopefully chime in with the details. That may be helpful to your search.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Already tried that. I've seen some parts for Hisun that supposedly fit Cub Cadet UTV but deifinitely not Volunteer diesel looking at the pictures. This thing is build by MTD and also sold as Massey Ferguson MF20MD but that got me nowhere so far 😕.

But thanks for suggestion!

The problem with finding a transmission to fit, is that it's probably fairly uncommon. So yeah, you could find a new transmission, but like you said, it's expensive. I can't imagine that there's too many donor  diesels around though. You'd need a wrecked one at that. And it's likely a much different transmission from the gas models. You might have better luck finding a gas engine with the transmission attached from a donor vehicle. Which is probably a lot more common.  But you'd probably want the wiring harness as well as the CPU. If it's an injection type motor.

Marrying a different brand of transmission to your motor isn't possible with anything less than expert level skills. And probably more money than it's worth. But you might put in a motor, transmission combo. The fabrication skills are much less for that, although still a daunting task.

Personally, I'd either cut my losses, and call it a lesson learned. Or use extreme patience, and keep searching for the right donor vehicle. Or you might try to find one that's running, and then you'd have a parts vehicle.

Let me know if your parting out parts. I need cv axles.

Hi Margrabia, I know your frustration, changed my cat diesel out with Kohler gas engine.  Right I would only get a penny for every dollar spent.  Are you willing to sell your machine.

I just came across this thread so I dont know how old the posts are. I just bought a 2008 cub cadet volunteer with the yanmar diesel and the cvt transmission for 500.00. The only problem was that he gave me the transmission in pieces because the reverse gear shredded and stripped the tranny case bolt. I managed to download the full parts manual and order the parts, im currently in the process of reassembly. Any questions feel free to Contact me at 1(631)2five2-73eight2

I want to ditch my Kubota RTV-XG850 and its moronic twitchy throttle design flaw, get rid of the problematic engine and the 40 mph purposely throttled speed.
So far, I'm looking at the Honda Pioneer 1000 and the Polaris Ranger 1000, both of which have 1000-1500 lb payload bed capacity.
What other makes and models should I be looking at?

      Thanks for the help!

As with any forum you join, there is a requirement for an obligatory introduction... and that seems fair. How else do you get that first post in there without jumping in with some stupid question right out of nowhere?

Hi. I'm Space Ghost. Well, not really, but that was my call sign on my last deployment before an IED made me non-deployable, and I an now retired/disabled, and living on my wonderful VA disability. I did almost 28 years in total between the Army, Army Reserve, and National Guard. 1 deployment with the Reserve (Desert Storm) and 3 with the Guard (1 pre, and 2 post 9/11)

Married (going on 30 years) one of each. (both out of the nest)

Just picked up my first side by side a couple days ago. A 2020 Can-Am Defender HD10 DPS 6x6.

It's in pretty good shape, but as you can probably tell, it's sitting a bit high. Former owner put a lifting collar on the shocks.

The good = almost 17" of ground clearance. (30" tires)
The bad = incredibly steep driveline angles, and a pretty stiff ride.

      They will be coming off.

Other than that... clean as a pin and appears very well maintained.

Looking forward to seeing what this forum can bring, and hoping I can bring something in return.

      Hello All...
Just bought a 2014 Massimo 500 UTV.  It;s not running at the moment, but hopefully will soon.  I need a seat for it also (passenger side, if it makes any difference.)  It is a crank-but no start situation.  Just now starting to read the boards for solutions.  Apparently these models are well known for this issue.  If anyone has any suggestions, please feel free to chime in, it would be greatly appreciated.
      Thanks

Bit of background. First the machine would take for ever to start. So I adjusted the valve shims into spec and made sure the timing is correct. Starts perfectly now.

now it fluctuates on idle. Bogs down, Revs up, repeat. I noticed the fuel pressure drops from 60psi to 20psi while that happens. It also bogs down at the lower end of each gear, higher rpm seems to be fine. Seems to struggle under load. In neutral it revs up perfectly.

brand new fuel pump, fuel filter, gas. I noticed on the fuel pressure regulator there’s that vacuum nipple, it’s not attached to anything and I’m not sure where it would go. Possibly the problem?

Another issue is the tip off the end of the exhaust is broken off, sensor is still attached and connected. Could that cause these issues?

my next plan was to look into the pressure regulator and voltage to fuel pump while driving. Is there anything I’m missing or any ideas you guys have?

      thanks!
