Went to do the break in service on my buggy the other day. 10W 30 motorcycle oil, check. 85w 90 for rear diff, check. ATF for front diff, check (okay I cheated and used trans-hydraulic tractor oil, similar stuff.) Oil filter, now that was a tough one. Being the good red-blooded American male that I am, I refused to buy the overpriced Hisun filter and have it shipped in. Surely there was a cross reference that will fit it... So I do some digging, and some measuring, came up with a 2.5inch diameter filter with 3/4 16 threads. Easy, pulled the correct filter at Walmart, an AC Delco is what I grabbed, no dice. The only difference is the Hisun filter has a concave top around the threads, while most filters are covex or flat. They designed it (probably to sell filters I guess) to where the base of the filter adapter on the machine will bottom out on the filter before the gasket on most other brands of filter. I did find a filter at tractor supply for Toro twin cylinder lawn mower engines that is identical to the Hisun filter. I just ended up paying more than if had ordered the Hisun one. Tis the price of stubbornness.

Have trouble with that factory filter (removal)?  That was the most I have ever cussed in that short of a time period.  Talk about a goat rope.  I *hate* working on my 550.  It is my punishment for being an a**hole when I was younger.  lol.

Yeah im missing the skin on a couple knuckles.... one of these days ill learn to use gloves. Was able to get it with channel locks but there aint alot of working room. .. I was about a half second from driving a screwdriver through it and doing it that way.

It is common on motorcycles and the like for the oil filter adapter to be secured with a largish central nut:

It is also common for many automotive oil filters to have a projecting mounting thread incompatible with such an adapter (like this FRAM filter--where the thread "bottoms out" before the seal):

Here are the dimensions of the Hisun filter (note the "concavish", recessed below the seal, mounting thread):

I got a properly fitting filter from Amazon for $10...

Make certain they understand the need for a recessed (1/4" or so below the gasket) thread. In many motorcycle forums a common tale is "I bought an  "XYZ" brand filter at my FLAPS and that threaded on, but leaks like a sieve ...

That looks like it might work, I was mislead by an eBay listing to believe the thread was 3/4-10--however I just measured the good filter I have--it is indeed M20 x 1.5. I corrected the dimensioned photo posted above...

Interesting, I was pretty sure it was 3/4 16 thread... The filters that Walmart had for motorcycles, with the recessed threads, Fram pH6017 I believe it is, have a 20mm thread and did not work. Slightly bigger than the 3/4 hole. The toro filter I bought was part number 136-7848P.

The filter I first bought and tried was the ac delco equivelent of a fram ph4386.... threads right, diameter right, slightly longer, but bottomed out on the threads.... point being if anyone tries an unknown filter, you can tell if it is going to work by feel.... if you twist it on and it just comes to a stop, its probably gonna leak. You should be able to feel the gradual tightenting of the gasket the last turn or so.

I filled out the contact form on Wix's website earlier.... the phone rang just a few minutes ago, i didn't recognize the name that showed up on it, "MH Purolat...." about 5 minutes later it dropped on me like a ton of bricks, Man-Hummel, Purolater, OIL FILTERS......t1940.gif

they didn't leave a message.

Ah man if they get back with you let us know! I would feel alot better with a Wix or Purolator than the mysterious unbranded China filter....

      Hello everyone! I am new here and have no experience with UTVs but I am quickly getting some. I have a shifting problem where I can shift through all gears without the engine running but as soon as I start the engine I can not select a gear. Yes, foot is on the brake and yes the pin is being pulled to go into reverse if I was to try going into reverse. The shift lever does not move. I adjusted the linkage to get more accurate shifting with the engine off so I know those are now correct. I opened the shift lever housing to inspect the teeth on the gear and found this picture below. Why is this oil so milky looking? I assume with oil like this I'll need to replace the wet clutch as well but am not positive. Does anyone have any input into how to flush this system and get things shifting correctly? Thanks in advance for all the help!

      Hi everyone. I am new here to the forum and am excited to learn from all of you with more experience than me with UTVs. Our Axis750 we use on the hobby farm started to have some issues going into gear. Yes, foot is on the brake and completely stopped as required with these machines. I thought it was the linkage and adjusted it to where it is accurately shifting with the engine off and key in the on position. I start the engine and it won't shift gears (yes foot is on the brake). I thought maybe it was the shift lever teeth so I opened the assembly and this picture shows what I just found. I assume this means the wet clutch would need replaced too while draining and flushing the oil. What else should I consider or be looking at? Any idea what could cause this? I don't see visible leaks or cracks in the system anywhere. Thanks in advance for the help!

      Hi all, I own two Axis UTV's. Last year I purchased a 2022 Axis 500. I had a mechanical issue with the shifting forks after only 50 miles. I contacted Axis/Hisun warranty dept. That were very helpful and willing to send out a representative to see if it was a warranty issue that fell under coverage.  Since I live in an area that does not have authorized repair facility within 300 miles. A really nice guy drove all the way from West Virginia which was 4 hours away. He determined that the console would not stay seated in position and while driving it, the console would jump forward and knock it into the wrong gear causing the shift forks to become bent. It was then picked up a few weeks latter to be repaired in Richmond, Virginia. It should arrive home soon.
      Now to my question. After the 2022 Axis 500 was taken for repairs, I bought the 2024 550 Axis. I bought the first one to take my son who is disabled from an extremely rare disorder that requires daily care to get out of the house. There are two things that give him joy, music and going for rides.  That is why I purchased the first one, However because it had bucket seats and the engine was between the two and was too loud even though I deaden the sound and put a quiet muffler on it. 
      I then decided to purchase the Axis 550 for the great updated features and the bench seat, I will be buying the complete enclosure ad on's offered by Hisun. Since it does not come with a heater (Axis 750 does) I was wondering if anyone knows what heater is part of the 750 edition. There was a photo that showed a Firestorm brand, however I can not find what variation it is. If anyone knows what a Inferno heater would be correct for the Axis 550. I would like to install it this Winter to take Justin riding on the farm. Any help would be greatly appreciated.   Brent
