  • Alex changed the title to Joyner Trooper worst and best things

It all boils down to one's opinion.  Some don't like these mahines simply because they are from China.  Most of the stuff we get today comes from China.  Depending upon where you live in the US, parts and maintenance support is sparse.   You may have to be your own mechanic.  The Chery engine is apparently reliable (mine is).  John Deere and Kawasaki uses the 800cc version on one of their models as well as a host of other lesser known brands of SxS.  I prefer the clutch/5-speed transmission on the Renegade (and Trooper).  But you have to be proactive in managing power to the drive axles.  I like the independently selectable front/rear locking differentials and 4WD.  This machine is more like an automobile as far as the drive train goes.  I don't care much for the brake response - small diameter rotors leads to slightly longer stopping distances.  There hasn't been a safety recall on the Trooper or Renegade that I can find.  Other better known brands have had recalls.  There are tons of YouTube videos that show problems with belts burning out (CTV), broken axles and CV joints.  But that can also happen with any machine that is driven beyond its limits.  I don't think the Trooper or Renegade is designed to  go airborne over jumps.

Cons: Electrical system has been a problem. Fuse box has corrosion, short somewhere between lights and 4wd switch. Electrical system is exposed to water. Fuel gage is wrong, temp gage is wrong, Oil pressure light comes on at idle. Battery is draining after a few days. New ball joints worn out in just a few rides, no grease zirks. Rattles and bangs on rough stuff.  Sloppy steering box. 4wd switch cycles randomly. Have to remove seat belts to get to tool box under seat. Parts hard to get. Gutless engine. Shocks can't be rebuilt.

Pros: cheap to buy. No drive belts.

I bought a 2008 Trooper T2.  I live in the desert in Arizona.  My only issues with the trooper are the curb weight (1760lbs), and some minor electrical issues.  The weight of the machine almost makes it impossible to drive comfortably in washes.  The deep sand is a real problem for this machine.  There is only a 5a fuse controlling the lights, dash lights, turn signals, brake lights and all gauges.  That has to be split up.  The stock rocker switches corrode easily and need to be replaced with modern rocker switches which involves replacing the switch panels.  The 4wd switch is the first to go.  Replace it immediately and get ready for some tricky wiring when replacing the other switches.  Overall, for dirt roads and rough terrain including crossing some washes and doing some travel in narrow washes without much deep sand I am very happy with this purchase.  The unit is dependable and starts every time.  Oh yea the seat belts.....I replaced mine with 3 point seat belts ($60.00 pair) like the ones in my 91 jeep wrangler.  Work great and easy install.  No need to remove belts to lift seats.  The 5 point seat belts are a little overkill.

As with any forum you join, there is a requirement for an obligatory introduction... and that seems fair. How else do you get that first post in there without jumping in with some stupid question right out of nowhere?

Hi. I'm Space Ghost. Well, not really, but that was my call sign on my last deployment before an IED made me non-deployable, and I an now retired/disabled, and living on my wonderful VA disability. I did almost 28 years in total between the Army, Army Reserve, and National Guard. 1 deployment with the Reserve (Desert Storm) and 3 with the Guard (1 pre, and 2 post 9/11)

Married (going on 30 years) one of each. (both out of the nest)

Just picked up my first side by side a couple days ago. A 2020 Can-Am Defender HD10 DPS 6x6.

It's in pretty good shape, but as you can probably tell, it's sitting a bit high. Former owner put a lifting collar on the shocks.

The good = almost 17" of ground clearance. (30" tires)
The bad = incredibly steep driveline angles, and a pretty stiff ride.

      They will be coming off.

Other than that... clean as a pin and appears very well maintained.

Looking forward to seeing what this forum can bring, and hoping I can bring something in return.

      Hey everyone,
I’m in the market for a UTV windshield that can withstand extreme conditions, including high winds, dust, and off-road impacts.
I’ve seen a lot of options out there, but I’m unsure which one will provide the best protection and durability.
Does anyone have experience with windshields that excel in these environments? Are there specific brands or materials you recommend?
I’m particularly interested in options that offer both durability and clarity.
Any tips or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated!

      Hello All...
Just bought a 2014 Massimo 500 UTV.  It;s not running at the moment, but hopefully will soon.  I need a seat for it also (passenger side, if it makes any difference.)  It is a crank-but no start situation.  Just now starting to read the boards for solutions.  Apparently these models are well known for this issue.  If anyone has any suggestions, please feel free to chime in, it would be greatly appreciated.
      Thanks

Recently purchased 2nd hand not going Crossfire GT400 (Australian branded name?) 2020 model.  Has some issues what would be the best forum to pose questions.
      Thanks

I have a Coleman HS400UTV-5 got it manly for hunting and spending time with the grandkids
The one problem I am trying to avoid. My son borrowed it last summer and said it ran hot so he added water to it . I do not know how much he put in so I would like to drain most of it and add new coolant to protect it this winter. I can find no drain cock or any way of draining it besides loosening a hose.  Any suggestions ????
