How about a 1st annual Trooper Jamboree

Figured that maybe we should start a separate thread for a Trooper Jamboree. Currently we have Rocmoc, Kinarfi, Showa, and myself interested in setting up a 3 or 4 day ride at Logandale Trails near the Valley of Fire and Nelsons Hills near Boulder, both in southern NV but about 80 miles apart. Showa thought that Paiute3 would possibly be interested especially with him living near the area. I'll bet we could get someone from Joyner to join us seeing as we have a fair amount of mods they should be interested in.

How about we start to set up a time that works. I'm retired so my schedule is pretty much wide open and I beleive that Kinarfi is fairly flexible too. Kinarfi prefers it to be sooner then later to better catch cooler weather and I agree. So far Rocmoc has the farthest to drive, well Kinarfi has a ways to go too, so maybe you Rocmoc can start things out by picking dates that include the weekend that would work for you. If you can pick a couple of times that work for you and we can see how the others fit in. We'll juggle from there.

There would be lodging in Logandale which were right next to and for Nelson Hills, were close enough (guessing 10 miles) from Boulder so lodging could be had there. Those using lodging could leave all equipment with those camping on site so going to and back from lodging would be quick. There is camping at both sites with Logandale Trails having public bathrooms at the trail head. I have a small 21' fifth wheel trailer that is 6'8" wide so were pretty tight. I can however sleep four if someone doesn't mind the squeeze we could sleep 2 more people. Kinarfi, your also more than welcome but your a big guy so you'll have to tip your head a little to fit on height. That's fine with me if it is with you. If others have room to spare, please advise. Hope I'm not getting ahead of myself but I always lived feeling that if everybody looks out for everybody else, we all have a more fulfilling time.

The trails offer quite a wide variety of riding from sand dunes, general trails, wash crossings, up and down tight stuff, some nice rock crawling and of course general putting around site seeing. I don't know how big Logandale Trails are for sure but Nelson Hills is 10 by 12 miles or 120 sq miles of area.

Lets hear from anyone and everyone interested and lets get a schedule put together and beat the heat.

How about you starting off rocmoc?

I just got back from a 2 day drive around White Rim, Canyon Lands, in my Yukon with my son and our wives. My boy and his wife rode motorcycles and I drove the Yukon, They won't let ATVS or OHVs in.

Any way, I'm pretty sure I can find a break in the TV schedule and scrape together some funds and make it down to see you all, definitely worth any expense. :D Pretty certain that you can count me in.!!!!!! Let's do it before it gets too hot down there.

When? Let us know so that George can schedule the time off. The motels are in Overton but it would be better lodging for the money to stay in Mesquite (a bit farther to drive) for the Logandale Trail. Theres a couple of nice motels in Boulder City but you'ld be right outside of Henderson with Sunset Station and Fiesta Casinos with huge parking lots.

Looking forward to seeing everyone!

Looking good, anyone have any local information about, entry fees, camping areas, lodging, water, fire restrictions, anything helpful, suggestions.

Who's volunteering to get this organized, Lenny?

It's a go. Looks like we have rocmoc, kinarfi, paiute3, showa and myself. Paiute3 still has to clear it with work. Rocmoc has now shown the 8th - 10th of May which adds an extra day. This is fine with me, how about everybody else? With 3 days we can take in both Logandale Trails and Nelson Hills. We should all meet at Logandale Trails ( I'll set up a specific location later ) the first day and plan on spending the nite there, then when there, as a group, we'll decide how to schedule in Nelson Hills. Paiute3 said that lodging would be available in Overton which is about 7 miles east of Logandale. The trail itself is about 3-4 miles south of Logandale. If you want better than little town lodging, you can always go to Mesquite which is about 30 miles from the trail but that's a bit of a dirve. My wife, Jeanne and I will get to the trail early and establish a camping area. We all will be camping in a narrow canyon right next to the Valley of Fire. It's a beautiful location and great for Kodak Moments. Camping is free but there are not any facilities. There is a public restroom at the Lgandale Trails about 1/4 mile or so up the park road but it's basic with no water. Anybody that wants to stay in Overton can leave their Trooper and anything else for that matter with those at the camp site.

I can sleep 2 extra people in my camper but it will be tight as I have my wife and myself along with my two 70 pound dogs but we can make it work. I also have a Dodge Mega Cab which could sleep a couple in the back seat which is huge when folded down flat. This is my kit:

I'm going to plan on being there on the 7th to claim our camping spot. Others can get there anytime from the evening of the 7th or after.

There is plenty of room for tent camping also. After all, this is camping, it's susposed to be inconvenient. I'll bring some wood but don't have much for campfires. If you have some fire wood laying around, bring it. It doesn't cost anything to ride or camp at either site.

Finally, someone on this forum knows the people at Joyner. Possibly they can talk to them and convince them to send a team member with a Trooper to represent the company. I think with this many Trooper owners showing up at the 1st Trooper Jamboree, they need to come. This will give everybody including them a chance to see a lot of modifications and fixes first hand. These are mods done by some very bright and capable people that we are fortunate to have on this forum.

Please ask any and all questions.

Any and all Trooper owners are invited. Please let us know if you want to come.

Looking forward to seeing everyone, can't wait.

Lenny,

Where we're going to be camping is the area large enough to turn our mega cab and 29 foot trailer around in? We'll be up Friday afternoon. Lance may be coming with us as well. I'll speak to our neighbor about firewood, he usually has a bunch of 2x4 short leftovers from his projects, I'll let you know.

Can't wait to see everyone!

I'm planning on bringing some 8 foot aspen logs and a saw. And before someone beats me to it, I'll also bring my Trooper to drive since logs don't drive very well and have lousy ground clearance

I'm excited!

No problem with the trailer and good taste on your truck.

Lenny,

We will be bring a Toyhauler. We need lots of room to turn around as we are 53' long. Is there somewhere where we can setup once as it is a lot of work to break camp every day?

Yes, we can set up once. If we go to Nelson Hills which is about 100 miles south, we could go early on the 10th and that way, we wouldn't have to set up camp there.

Manuvering your should not be a problem. Even of yuou can't get turned around where we camp, the road continues and 1/4 to 1/2 mile down there will be enough room.

Talked to my dealer today, Tyler at Epic Motorsports in Saint George, UT, and he wants to come. He will be bringing a supercharged Trooper with nitrous oxde. He said he will try to get it tuned in in time. This guy goes way extreme in everything he does. His rock crawling jeep has a cat engine. He says that it has so much torque that he struggled to find a dirve line that would hold it. You'll like him, he is a fun guy. Said he might birng his promotional trailer and do a big banner. This is turning out to have a lot of people between all the guys, wives and those with kids and a few dogs. Would someone like to volenteer to contact the magazines. I'll bet they will want some pics and stories.

Here is a video of Logandale. It looks like a great time I wish we could go just not going to happen this year. Take lots of pics and video for those of us who have to sit this one out. Have a great time and be safe.

GREAT video! So Lenny, how much of the video have you done and are we going to do?

rocmoc n AZ/Mexico/Texas

I have done some of it but saw stuff on the video I havn't found yet. I also saw stuff on the video that I'm not sure I can do. It was just my wife an I and I don't push it as much unless there is others there to assist should I get in trouble. We didn't ride the whole area, there is stuff I want to explore yet. The video only shows rock crawling parts of the area but there are quite a few other trails too. Most of the riders that were there run ATVs and motorcycles and they don't ride the rock crawl trails. The crawl sections seem to be in sections and quite often there are go-arounds. Also there is a bit of sand dunes. Nelson Hills doesn't have the jeep trails but it does have more highly technical regular trails. Each area has it's own personality and the difference is a lot.

Anybody can ride as much of the crawl trails as they want. I know I'll be looking at this stuff just to see what I can and can't or dare to do. When I was a kid, I was always building scooters or 4 wheelers and the goal was always to get through the really bad stuff. There is other stuff for those that don't want to do the Jeep trails and plenty of trails for the wives to do. The wives are welcome to do the jeep trails too and some of them can get pretty competitive. If they start beating the guys, we'll have to pretend we hear a bad noise from the engine and tell them they can't drive anymore.

Lenny to clarify, we will be arriving on the 8th. It will be a long full day drive for us. We will try to get there as early as possible but it is around 500 miles for us.

Great video. Not all those Jeeps where fully locked up only the last Jeep at the end so they were doing that in "not true 4wd form". However the articulation on the front end of all those Jeeps was impressive and would of helped a lot. The Jeep is wider which would also help but I think the Troopers will get through no worries at all. I'm very jealous of you guys so would like to nominate the 2nd annual Trooper Jamboree in NZ. Just kidding, have a good time and as 4x4x454 said, take lots of pics & video please.

Cheers Mike.

I like your idea for 2nd Annual Trooper Jamboree in NZ, Mike, provided you're footing the bill for us to get there with our Troopers and gear

sorry for the edit, couldn't resist, Kinarfi

Logandale is about 35-40 miles northeast of the northeast corner of Las Vegas. I'm sure you can get to Logandale without my help. Once in Logandale, turn WEST on Liston st. Liston st is aprox. 2-1/3 miles from the north edge of town. Go aprox 1 block to the end,and turn right just before the RR tracks. After about 200 yards you will cross over to the other side of the RR tracks. Continue on for another 170 yards along the tracks and follow as it curves off to the left. After not too far, you'll be next to the tracks again and then the gravel road continues on to the left. Follow this road for aprox. 2-1/4 miles where you will see the entrance to the trails. The not so good public restroom will be here along with some plaques etc. Continue on about 2/3 mile and you will be at the intended camping site. If for some reason that site is taken, we will just pick from one of the many others.

GPS coordinants of the camp site are; 36deg- 35min-11.77sec N and 114degrees-31min-52.06sec W

You might want to check it out on Google Earth. It is pretty slick looking from the air.

2021 Hisun Axis 500 UTV (From Lowes)
      Will NOT START
MY apologies if this is to much info just wanted to give yal the most information possible for help.
I'm a so called diyer. An Electrician by trade 21yrs. I got my S×S from my last job. The contractor purchased this S×S for this specific job brand new, from Lowes. They used it for hauling materials, tools, & a little bit of anything you can think of on an Industrial type job site.
I remember getting on the SxS one time & pushed the gas petal all the way to the floor & SxS had very little power.
So anyway ,when the job finished up back mid July this year (7/2024) , I asked the contractor what they was going to do with it. I was told to take it. Otherwise it would go to the contractors yard (storage yard) & most likely rust away.
Took it home washed it , it had a heavy coat of dust on it & in it dust was every where. My helper & I had to push it on the trailer to get it home.  After washing it throughly I let it sit & dry out for a good day and half, maybe 2 days. Before trying to start it. NO START. Will turn over & try to start but thats it.
So here's what I've purchased & installed. New Air Filter, new spark plug, new air idle control valve (AICV), new throttle position sensor, new throttle body, new oxygen sensor, new digital dash speedometer/fuel gauge/clock.
Also drained the old oil & gas & replaced with new oil & 93oct. gas. I should probably mention that I've changed the AICV twice. The 1st time I changed the AICV I was able to get the SxS started & let idle for at least 10-15min. Drove out of the garage, with very little power,  turned it around & barely got it back in the garage. That was the one & only time I've been able to start the SxS. I've also cleaned the Throttle Body and & intake with TB cleaner.  So after that the AICV was  making weird noise so I pulled it out & tried cleaning it, pretty sure I messed it up. So I purchased a Throttle Body that came with new AICV & TPS. Still NO START.  I've checked the fuel pump & the fuel injector.  I took the injector off still hooked up to wiring & turned the key over, the injector sprayed a lot of gas out kinda the size of a volleyball. I've also checked the clearance gap on the intake & exhaust valve. But today 11/2/2024 I'm going recheck spark plug gap & the valve gaps. And alot of other checking. Would the driver side seat belt have anything to do with it not starting?? I know the driver side seat belt has to be in gauged for full throttle "going fast". Thing is the drv. side seat belt will latch but feels like might be messed up inside of it. Tired opening it up but to no avail.  I've never had a S×S or 4wheeler so I was really excited when I got the S×S,not so much anymore.  I work on & fix my own vehicles usually no problems.  But this SxS is kicking my ass.
So if possible & someone could help me with some ideas or tell me what Im doing wrong or did wrong, I would greatly appreciate it.  Thank you for reading thus far.

The conversion took about 350lbs. off the vehicle.  It never rode great, but now I feel every  crack in the road.  I have backed off spring compression nut to the point just under where they would move around if suspension was at full extension, but it is still very stiff.  I would like to put some softer coilover springs on it, but I have no idea what the spring rate is with the original springs so I would just be guessing on what to order.  Does anyone have the data for the original spring compression rate?  I am willing to give up a little ground clearance for a softer ride. Right now when sitting still the rear suspension is at or near full extension and the rear tires have several degrees of camber which will cause uneven wear if allowed to continue in this state.

Twice my hisun has been driven a few miles and turned off back at home. Get back on it same afternoon and console is dead, no lights.
Have 12.7 vdc at battery and fuses are good. I hear relays click in the fuse box and main relay clicks but everything is dead.
Any ideas on what this may be? I've seen this problem before on this forum but it never finished.
Any help is always appreciated. Thanks in advance!
